Says nothing about different types of break, or any way to classify breaking balls...which is what we are talking about.

Again...we know how to talk about curves precisely and accurately. We do not need to use terms like "late break". The only thing that article seems to suggest is that the actual movement on the pitch isn't why it's effective, only the perception of that movement...which we know to be false since curves with more movement produce measurably better results.

Two way street. As more teams go to the fall backs the less teams are interested in signing him to a max plus deal. Say the Braves trade for KB. Now only two teams are left in the running.

Particularly in this situation - IF his preference truly is to come back here if all things are relatively equal.

AA would obviously prefer to bring him back and keep the prospects (I think we all would), but at some point Donaldson potentially has to weigh the fact that the longer he drags this out the more chance the Cubs or Rockies cave and will take Riley as the centerpiece of a Bryant or Arenado deal because they really need the arms more than they need Pache/Waters over Riley. If the rumors that the three teams have 4 year offers on the table and his preference is to stay in Atlanta, is he honestly willing to go to Minnesota or Washington for $5 million more if AA happens not to be bluffing and has told them his best offer is on the table? If it's all about the bottom line, sure - but as much as many folks around here hate to see it happen, location preference often factors in to "all things being equal".

We were talking about different types of breaking balls and how they are described objectively, not about how break is perceived in general.

The laws of physics affect every ball equally regardless of who throws it. Gravity is the same for an 8 year old as it is for an mlb ace. There are a lot of adjectives that describe pitches such as “late break” “rising fastball” that aren’t correct when you apply physics the analysis. I would guess perception is affected by tunneling and sequencing more than any other factor.

Perhaps players better able to track the baseball and keep out of their peripheral view are better at seeing and hitting movement. Maybe that’s the physiological part of pitch recognition.
