He doesn't have to be worth 4.5 or 5 WAR per season. $25 mill is around 3 WAR. So let's say he manages 4 the first year, 3 the second, and only 2 the third, it's a breakeven deal overall.

Longo, OTOH, is due more than 7 WAR in salary, and you would have to be wildly optimistic to believe he can manage even 5. Around 3 (all three years combined) is far more likely.

I think the smart decision is to get someone cheap for third base. Leave Riley a few months at AAA and try to add someone like Marte or Ozuna. Donaldson contract will bite our butt in the future.

My guess is that AA gets a big bat thru trade.

I like JD, but the contract he is going to get will end up stinking on the backend. Let’s not forget also, that JD was healthy last year...but hasn’t been and those injuries tend to crop back up up with age.

My guess is we would be lucky for him to replicate one more year like last year, and when he falls off...he falls hard.

If we can't land JD, best back up options are Turner (if LA signs Rendon) or Kyle Seager.

Is just depends on the money. 3/75 would be fine, but it’s looking unlikely that will be enough. 4+/100+ might just be to much for to long.

You could always deal Mancini later. Or one of those guys goes out in the lindor deal.

MANCINI may cost less than matte despite having more control.

To a guy that would be the richest majority owner in baseball. Gotta hope the Mets don't get smart cause if they start spending like a top 5 team they could be really good.

Of all people, Steve Phillips made an interesting point this morning...

Given the relative lack of SS openings, it makes some sense to wonder if Didi's representation isn't also marketing him as a 3B option. He wouldn't be ideal over there, but 1.) would obviously come much cheaper than Donaldson, 2.) would seem to kill 2 birds with one stone (DOB's most recent article mentions that AA's probably still looking for a backup SS), 3.) would make it easier to include Dansby in a deal for a SP in the event the team he was dealing with might prefer Swanson over Riley, 4.) would provide better flexibility than blocking Waters with Ozuna, and 5.) of course saves you the pick you'd have to give up for Ozuna.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

We have a few dreamers on the board who think there is a nonzero chance that Dansby could be dealt.

I have been wrong before, so... who knows, but I think you are dreaming. Lots of moving parts, but I just don't see Dansby as one of them.

The only way Dansby is traded is if we make a deal for Lindor

Who wants to guess what our next move is? It should be 3b no doubt. But who?

    Just get Rendon already.

That money would be paid back before the end of the season.

Yes, if Bowman can be trusted. Makes JD a tough fit unless we trim some payroll (likely Ender or Greene).

Will be interesting to see how the dominoes fall. Cole seems likely to sign the Angels, imo, which means the Yankees will be all in on Stras. If LA/Texas lands Rendon, Washington pretty much has to fall back to JD, but Texas is said to be hot on the trail for JD as well. Washington could very well be the one left without a chair when the music stops.

Omar Narváez to the Brew Crew. Good offensive replacement for Grandal, but he's pretty terrible defensively. Cost was very reasonable though.

They "can" replace Rendon with Kieboom, they cannot realistically replace Stras.
