Jeez I didn't realize that his fastball and sinker were such awful pitches. The dude has given up a 136 wRC+ against his fastball over his career. Last season he gave up a 1.300 (!) OPS against his sinker when he decided to throw it. It has been absolutely dreadful the past two years.

How the hell did Archer produce all those years with a fastball that was THAT bad. Except for 2013, he has given up AT LEAST a 121 wRC+ against his four seamer in every season of his career. Yeah, his slider used to be top notch. But even that pitch is regressing heavily as he has given up a 90 and a 92 wRC+ over the past two years.

That trade may go down as one of the worst in the history of the sport. Just a dreadful situation for the Pirates.

    Lol
Personally I feel like the best bet is somewhere in the middle. The Braves best writers just come off as mouthpieces for the team as opposed to independent journalists who look to bring a good story that fans would want to be informed on. They just won't ask the tough questions.

New York beat writers come off as arrogant and try to incite drama which in turn helps sell newspapers. That's the way it is here.

Well, try as you might sometimes you can't get it. I do believe the "culture" deal comes into it not from North/South but more about how you were mentored into it. Some are hard-nosed bulls in china cabinets others catch more flies with honey. I do agree the Atlanta writers don't seem to go there enough. It's likely they are scared to risk access levels.

Lol. We finish the season with 7 straight home games against the two World Series participants. That's brutal.

Very brutal for the Nats and Astros indeed.

While the Braves will be adding Donaldson, Castellanos and Clevinger. Incredible!

Don't know why anyone would be interested in Joyce at this time. Age and limited ability all considered.
Castellanos would be my choice even over JD but I know there is really no place in the future for him with those already on board. IMO that cleanup bat so badly needed is a preferably a one year fill in if JD doesn't come back and until the prospects mature.

I would almost always prefer to play elite teams the last week of the season rather than mid season. Those teams will likely be resting players.

the Nats will have been dealt the death blow long before the final week of the season anyway.

Actually that ideal cleanup bat is Riley - unfortunately he's not ready to be that yet (and may never be for those who don't believe in him).

If he had given you enough reason to believe he'd be ready to hit behind Freddie at any point this season, I'd love for AA to simply sit on all that money until the deadline in case an injury pops up - then spend it plus what comes off the books on Bauer or Paxton next winter.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

    Is that you, Bowman?

Death blow was last June. Opening Day changes nothing.

I will admit to a measure of Homerism and acknowledge that like many others, I waited anxiously for Riley's next AB during his debut. However I think we would all be wise to hold our praise or derision until time decides what his future worth may be. He may flop, he may be traded, he may fade into the sunset but then again, we can hope that he is a viable candidate for 3rd or LF and fourth in the order some day soon.

MLB free agency is awful from a fan’s (and player’s) perspective. It’s a joke that after 2.5 months we are still monitoring bread crumbs from hacks like Heyman and Morosi for Donaldson news.

Crusts of bread from Bowman counts just as much, probably even more.

Sun Trust Park signs came down today. What is going to replace them if anything??
