Lol I should have known. Its kinda sad that baseball writers are so bad at this point that such a terrible idea actually seems like it could plausibly come out of one of their mouths.

Many times the framework of a deal is in place, but specific financials and throw ins have yet to be completely decided.

If we were confident in his ability to put up an .850-.900 OPS, I'd be willing to take the hit on defense. Especially if we weren't confident in getting anyone else to fill in at 3rd base this offseason. I would take Andujar and his defense over what we currently have any day of the week.

But there are more preferable targets out there and I would exhaust most of them before trying to target Andujar. If it did come down to that, though, he could eventually represent Freddie's replacement at 1st base if and when Freddie hits free agency in 2021.
Just can't see AA taking that kind of hit on defense after all the talk about wanting to improve defensively since his first day on the job. I think he'll overpay in a trade before going that route.

I keep coming back to Hunter Dozier. Would Waters be an overpay? Probably. Adding Dozier allows you to move Riley to the OF full-time if he's not dealt. Dozier would be a downgrade from Donaldson, sure, but he'd still leave AA with some financial flexibility in the event a potential deal for an Ace drops in his lap in the next year or two - and he might even be an extension candidate if he comes in and looks like a fit. It's hard to imagine at times, but there's still room for Acuna and Albies to improve offensively given their age - and if Pache provides the upgrade over Ender that many expect (when he's ready), is it really worth painting yourself into the corner that comes with giving Donaldson something in the $25 million AAV range (especially if you project Dozier's numbers will improve if you get him out of the canyon he's currently hitting in)? You'd also have the option of signing someone like Peralta or Brantley (for far less than the money you'd have to commit to Donaldson) to a short-term deal next winter if Riley can't put things together well enough to be the replacement for the Markakis/Duvall platoon.

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

There's some options out there to replace Rendon. Gerrit Cole is pretty much the only guy who can replace Stras. A Keuchel, Ryu, MadBum, Porcello type is a major downgrade. Washington basically has to do what it takes to keep Stras, they dont have anything in the farm, and unless they're opening up the brink trucks for Cole, yeah.

2 & 3 ....we spend some more money and make one big trade. 3rd base and I still think we add another rotation piece.

Harry Special (again, not to be taken too seriously)

    Padres get: Touki
Braves get: Will Myers, CJ Abrams and Luis Campusano

Why it works for the Braves: Braves get a RH power OF bat who's negative D appears to come from the Pads misplaying him in CF, get a top SS prospect, get a top catching prospect
Why it works for the Pads: Pads get a SP/RP prospect who may need a change of scenery and (big reason) move Myers' $67.5M owed over the next three years and open playing time for their prospects.

    Cubs get: Bryse Wilson
    Braves get: Happ, Chatwood

Why it works for Braves: they get a 3B platoon/OF platoon option in Happ and pick up a 5th starter/LR guy
Why it works for the Cubs: they move some payroll and get a SP prospect back.

    Indians get: Inciarte and Camargo
    Braves get: Espino and Hankins

Why it works for Braves: Shed some long term payroll and pick up a couple of SP prospects
Why it works for Indians: Fill Of hole and pick up Util infielder at reasonable price.

I’m not sure why folks expect more pitching help with a rotation of Soroka, Fried, Folty, Hamels, and several young options for the 5th spot already on board.

This. They are done with the rotation imo. Wright needs a shot and Anderson will at some point next year too.

Pretty sure it would cost one of our big 3 (Anderson, Pache, Waters), and then some. Given he's gonna get north of 300+ mil and no way we do that, thats a hard, hard, hard pass for me.
