I was surprised Soroka got a first place vote. I expected Alonso to win unanimously with Soroka getting most or all of the second place votes. Seeing Fernando Tatis's son in MLB really makes me feel old.

The guy who voted for Soroka for first posted a lengthy article on The Athletic explaining his reasoning (and asking Mutts fans not to hate him). It was mainly clickbait to anger Mutts fans, but his reasoning was solid. Basically explained that while Alonso’s season was great, Soroka’s was amazing. His lack of HRs allowed, leading Alonso in WAR, and top 5 in all pitching categories in a season with a juiced ball pushed him over the top for the voter.

Yeah and the author was arguing that for pitchers bWAR was better because it didn’t rely on FIP.

I agree with him that bWAR is better way of picking awards. It is based in what actually happened rather than trying to be predictive.

I still wouldn't have Soroka ahead of Alonso.
