This is a move we’ve been expecting for months.

Current payroll is sitting at about $126M, so either 3b is getting a cheap option, or the posi-Braves are getting their wish for a $150M+ opening day payroll.

Or...AA has a rabbit in his hat for an impact bat.

I could see them still signing Ozuna and Travis Shaw to platoon with Riley at 3B.

once that started getting reported we should've known it wasn't true. what has AA done that has actually been picked up on ahead of time?

    Riley needs AAA ABs.

Mostly agree with you. But, to be fair, a lot of folks anticipated a Hamels-to-Atlanta move (though I guess it’s been more “predicted” than “reported on”).

Huge fan of Hamels! A lot more than I thought he’d get. Maybe a cheap option for a 2nd year

Among FA pitchers we actually had a shot at, he was by far my Number 1 choice. Glad to see it get done. Did not want MadBum, DK, or reclamation projects like Porcello.

Rosenthal said we are not out on Bumgarner yet but I dont see how it makes sense to sign him considering we have like 4 candidates for the fifth spot and can sign a journeyman poised for a bounceback season closer to ST.

I really wanted MadBum but am really happy with the 1 year commitment to a very good pitcher.

AA has done such a fantastic job as GM. We are very lucky to have him.

Now that they’ve signed Hamels, I actually would like to see them bring in a reclamation arm like Porcello, for depth options. What would’ve been disappointing is if the reclamation arm was “the guy”.

sure, i'm talking about Rosenthal (iirc it was him) saying the Braves were very interested in Bum. i don't believe there was anything similar with Hamels. if the Braves were actually very interested in Bum, it wouldn't have come to light.
