"DeSantis said it was the President's alarm -- not warnings health officials had been making for weeks -- that finally persuaded him."
    _

When people ask why do we hang on every word what Trump says, it's because of stuff like this. If the Gov. of Florida, one of the wealthiest states in the country, refused to take action from health officials and only listened to POTUS, imagine how many regular joe schmoes listened to the President for 2 months saying it wasn't a big deal and no worse than the flu, and didn't take it seriously...

I frankly don't care about Trump embarrassing himself. As sturg always says, he's a buffoon. I only care about him not using the power of his podium to speak reasonable sense and to not lie to people, when it affects the health and welfare of the rest of the general public. We could have been ahead of the game for weeks now had Trump gotten everyone on the same page and stop repeating lies on air to satisfy his base. He wouldn't have had to issue a federal order. But he's not a leader in a time of crisis, nor is he a leader at all. And despite what sturg says, we we don't look at leaders like rulers.

It is a bit early to have a full assessment of which countries handled this best.

But our neighbor to the north is looking good.

Canadian deaths per 100,000 population: 0.6.

Our number is about 4 times as high.

Countries like Spain and Italy are even higher. But they are several weeks ahead. It will take time before a good comparison of the numbers is possible.

On a proportional basis Canada has more people of Chinese origin. So I imagine travel to and from China is also relatively high.

What types of lunar new year celebrations are there in Toronto? Anything close to Chinatown in Manhsttan and Flushing?

How dense is their city? Public transportation.

We have 1 bad spot and some small flare ups that are toppling out and much lower levels than anticipated.

It's not about a bad response time. Its about how unique NYC is. Also helped we stopped additional virus from entering or else we would proportionally be ****ed like Italy.

Toronto has an enormous Chinatown. Montreal has a big one too. And British Columbia has a very big Chinese population.

Canada is also slightly more urbanized than we are. And their cities have more public transportation.

I think once the data come in, we will find that urbanization will be as important a variable in driving cases and fatalities as the age composition of the population.

Canada is doing well in spite of some of these considerations.

Its silly to compare density of these areas to NYC.

NY city compares more to Tokyo in terms of density and public transportation.

Agreed. Much less but the left suppressed a viable treatment. It's a shame.

Nearly every time Kentucky has placed an order for medical protective gear, Gov. Andy Beshear says the federal government has prevented its transfer.

Federal Government Outbids Kentucky For Medical Equipment Amid Shortage

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says his administration is doing everything it can to prepare hospitals to be inundated with cases of COVID-19, but nearly every time the state has placed an order for medical protective gear, the federal government has prevented its transfer.

If this crisis doesn’t make clear that America’s

military power is largely irrelevant to the threats of the

21st century, don’t know what will.

Time to redefine what security means—

act on it & invest in it.
