Government proves to be ineffective at legislating every day habits.

    It just doesn’t work.

It is an addiction. The worst food for you is generally the cheapest and also packed with sugar and salt. Sugar is probably the most addictive substance on the planet and it's a slow killer.

If we were serious about saving lives we would protect obese people from themselves.

    Eh.

Can’t get there. It’s coping because the mind wants you to be ok with the decision you made. You likely get a dopamine reaction to it. Just like your phone, and sweets.

    Government is not the answer.

The answer is pushing individual responsibility.

Individual responsibility only goes so far without proper resources. If the impoverished are eating macaroni and cheese and hot dogs, and there aren’t good ways for children to learn good habits without specific educational resources.

All this information is available though. The individual has to make the decision to care about their health.

This is a generational problem in that it's not something a few clever laws will fix. It will require a long term commitment to change behaviors. I have no problem with helping to provide increased access to healthy food. That actually will likely result in long term savings in the form of lower medical expenses and less lost productivity due to a healthier populace.

I do disagree with regulating food and soft drink. That's your individual choice. If you want to choose to drink that large coke, that's your choice.

That’s a lot easier said than done, though. Behaviors are learned early and reinforced through the formative years.

Regulation was a poor choice of wording. I meant there’s more to be done with showcasing the health risks with sugary foods and beverages, as well as with “healthy” foods like McDonald’s salads.

Gotcha. I have no problem with people making informed choices in food.

Educational programs are everywhere. It’s never been more accessible.

This people can still go walk for 30 min.

People trying to tell me they don’t have half an hour are probably making excuses for themselves as well.
