The other part is understanding that scientists have political views like anyone else. It is pretty rare that their work as scientists is affected by their politics. I mean a heart surgeon's competence in his or her field doesn't turn on whether he or she has liberal or conservative views.Originally Posted by Dalyn

You would have to be a little more specific for me to respond. I have no doubt there are examples. To be honest it isnt difficult to spot when someone allows their politics to affect their professional work. But I wouldnt regard that as justifying a wholesale rejection of scientific expertise. If a nutritionist tells you to take it easy on the oreos it's probably not because she is part of a left wing conspiracy.
