Positives % rolling 7 day average vs prior 7 days

    Bama 9.2 vs 7.9
    Arkansas 5.9 vs 4.6
    Florida 2.8 vs 3.1
    Georgia 8.1 vs 3.7
    Kentucky 3.2 vs 2.5
    Louisiana 4.4 vs 5.5
    Mississippi 7.1 vs 7.7
    North Carolina 5.3 vs 6.1
    Oklahoma 2.2 vs 2.1
    South Carolina 3.7 vs 2.9
    Tennessee 4.7 vs 4.1
    Texas 5.5 vs 5.8
    Virginia 10.6 vs 12.9
    West Virginia 3.7 vs 1.5

A mixed bag in the South. Most states have seen little change in the past two weeks. There are some exceptions. Both Georgia and Alabama have seen significant increases in the percentage of tests coming back positive. So has West Virginia, but starting from a lower level.

Virginia sticks out a bit. First they have had a higher positive percentage than the rest of the South for a while now. But they are making good progress bringing it down.

That's my wrap on the SEC.

Georgia data had a negative for tests given which fudged the numbers.

They do data a little differently in the South. But GA was trending up even before that batch of data. Missouri has a similar thing in their data. They're sort of southern.

I was concerned when I ran my model this morning but it was too much of a spike to make sense. Easy to see rhe error and then the 3 day testing average is consistent with prior periods.

You have defended every turn of the government actions across this country.

    Every

    Single

    One

So yeah, when the government says in order for me to go put in public, that I am forced to wear a piece of clothing, and also says private businesses must enforce this as well, that is oppression you ****ing idiot. The masks are useless as is.

When will the party of science look at the data and conclude that locking up its citizens is not the right answer?

Their obsession with power is so obvious.

This has come down again to blue states treating people like children and locking them up, and red states treating people like adults and letting them live their lives.

And the red states are doing just fine while the blue states are begging for federal bailout money bc they are broke.

I was of that belief too. But I've changed my mind a bit based on these articles.

WHO just released guidance on masks and it doesn't seem like they believe asymptomatic people ever need to wear them

linky? it is at odds with the information that asymptomatic people are significant spreaders

from one of the articles I mentioned above:

If only people with symptoms infected others, then only people with symptoms would need to wear masks. But experts have shown that people without symptoms pose a risk of infecting others. In fact, four recent studies show that nearly half of patients are infected by people who do not themselves have symptoms.

About what I expected. Fox runs a story yesterday and quotes something from March. This is not literally false. And part of the issue is the WHO not updating its guidance on this in months. But it is misleading to suggest that the WHO just came out with guidance saying this.

It is an interesting story only to the extent it illustrates bureaucratic inertia at the WHO. That is an important story, but not the story Fox is running about the guidance on masks.

So if someone wants to have a reasonable basis for criticizing the WHO there you have it. Bureaucratic inertia. A problem endemic to large unwieldly organizations. Not entirely excusable when we have an urgent need for laidership and timely guidance from the WHO.

FINLAND re-opened schools last week. They have already had outbreaks at 4 schools and have quarantined staff and students at those schools.

I think re-opening schools is very important and desirable. We should make every effort to do so. FINLAND has had a much better response than we have. They brought the number of cases way down. They re-opened in that context. They are testing the students and staff.

Students have very little risk. Staff more so. Some have died in FINLAND. Students' parents and grandparents also face more risk. So do as FINLAND is doing. Re-open but do it with your eyes wide open. I think our schools need to have plans for the inevitable outbreaks.

Science is about learning folks. Masks do no harm and the science increasingly indicates could be of considerable benefit.

As DeWine puts it love your fellow human being and wear a mask. It is fully to look at this through ideological lens.

SF now mandating them for runners.

This is purely about control. If you mandate something you need evidence as to why
