Georgia has been "semi-open" for a week now.

People are still not going out. I imagine it will be the same for Texas, Michigan (limited opening over the next 2 weeks) in the upcoming weeks.

As nsacpi has said, people don't feel safe/comfortable going out to restaurants in the short-term. This was going to happen with or without stay at home orders.

There are a few incidents of barber's/stylists doing house calls during shutdown, and dying from COVID. My stylist didn't want to go back to work yet because she follows a lot of these stories in the industry, but their franchise operator is forcing everyone to go back. Have a friend that owns a nail salon, and she's taken extra measures to mitigate risks, and people are being nasty to her for taking too long cleaning in between appointments.

In Albany- people are everywhere. I had a few errands to run and the amount of traffic was incredible. We will be back on the news shortly im sure but I think most are ready to get it over with and just keep the old folks at home along with the at risk

Traffic has increased in Savannah, but I think for social things like going out to a restaurant and such, people are not quite there yet.

What's gonna make them get there?

My friend is getting married in July and her family wants to postpone until 2022 to wait for a vaccine.

I feel really sorry for people like that. Imagine bracing for 2 more years of fear

Of course longer is harder. But one of the things I learned early on reading about this is the point is to get R naught down to a certain level. You reopen based upon what the data show about that.

I'm sorry but I still think you are making the error of assuming the acceleration on growth will be the same as it was before. Its just not going to happen that way again.

The hospitals will not be over populated.

The number of infections was doubling every five days in a do nothing setting. It wont go back to that. But a situation where it doubled every 20 days would also quickly become a disaster.

it wouldn't because it gets warmer, more humid and sunny for one.

And rate of transmission will continue to decelerate and allow the hospitals to handle COVID patients.

I'm sorry but this is just straightforward math.

3 million tests a day would do the trick

It sounds unimaginable. It WILL be hard. But its doable if we made it a national priority. We have not made the commitment. Our current shambolic approach is going to give us the worst of both worlds. Deaths that could be reduced. Economic loss that could be reduce.

Why is it 2 years of fear?

They want to postpone for the wedding event? They can Justice of the Peace marriage in July and postpone for the party for when it's safe.

I would imagine that person has older family members they want to be there with them. I don't really see why it's a big deal they postpone it.

Trump will approve of a vaccine by election time. Whether it's safe or not is another story. But I have a feeling we'll have a mass ready one by November.
