It might be a fair point to wonder if teams can take advantage of someone from an exceptionally poor background (regardless of nation of origin) because they may be might be far more willing to take an immediate cushion than gamble on larger future earnings, but I'm not even certain I believe that with them assumably having an agent explaining the numbers to them (and I have no idea how secure Ozzie or Acuna's families were financially, that was not my point). Not sure how the Bonilla contract ended up from the Mets perspective but Yelich is getting 28 million deferred and that present day 28 million (or over the life of his contract) is worth more now than it would be by 2042. These types of deals usually favor the teams because they can invest that money and make some of it back before dealing it out to Yelich.
