I'm also hoping he's a player they've been tracking, and have seen things the other publications haven't. The absurd whiff% he gets on his changeup, plus some of the data on the raw material of his slider, makes me think the Braves feel he could be successful even if he's more 92-94 than 95-97.
My experience with draft scouting reports are that if a guy is said to sit 92-94 and touch 97, expect a guy in the majors that sits 89-92 and touches 94.

Maybe they're thinking he can be a one dominant pitch reliever with that changeup.

You expect to land a Gerrit Cole type at 25 in a non-typical draft year?

For real. This isn't the NFL draft. He could be rated 50th on most boards and not be a reach. There isn't much of a gap in talent between the 25th rated player and the 50th rated player. It's mostly just who you prefer.

So you prefer a player who doesn't have helium? That makes zero sense.

My biggest problem with this pick is the opportunity cost. It's not like the cupboards were bare and we made the best of it. We passed on some pretty good players to take this guy.

Yeah, MLB draft is a lot different than NBA or NFL. There's a pretty big gap after top 25-35 or so guys for NFL. And NBA there's clearly a select few who are head and shoulders over everyone. MLB after the top 10, everyones pretty much the same.

    Fangraphs had him going 28.

Obviously you haven't bothered to read my posts - might want to go back and try.

Nobody expects a star at #25 - you're not getting a "steal" if you take guys like Shuster though. ESPECIALLY when you're trying to restock the lower levels.

AA was creaming himself before the Rays took Bitsko at #24 and panicked.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

I'm concerned of too much stock being put in an extremely small sample size this spring.

Like who? Who is substantially better than Shuster?

Dude, you do this every year. Just admit you didn't know anything about this kid an hour ago and move on.

I wanted Kelley. Much higher upside.

Kelley would have been a high upside pick but he would have cost about our whole pool, which isnt that much to begin with.

Fangraphs, Law, McDaniel, and Callis had him around top 35. It's not a major reach. But keep crying.
