    International Prospect Signing Rumors

Obviously it looks like signing deadline will move from July 2 to January, but I’m bored and we are back in the international game after all the penalties. Our international pool will be cut in half this year, and I believe cut from there because of the Will Smith and Ozuna signings, but Baseball America has us linked to two guys. And there’s nothing else to talk about, so here they are:

What restrictions are we operating under this year? I thought it was some ridiculously low individual bonus number, but I could be mistaken.

This upcoming international signing period we have our overall pool reduced by 50%. The signing period that is ending this June is the period where we were unable to sign individual players for more than $10,000 each.

Personally, I haven't really paid attention to the IL market since our penalty came down. Have any of our lost prospects turned themselves into legitimate prospects?

I think Bae Ji-hwan is the only prospect who’s really been rising/producing, but he’s also still early into his stateside career, in the low-minors, and missed thirty games last year due to a DV suspension.

I still shake my head at the level of the sanctions we were hit with. It went way past proportional, blew by draconian, and went well into silly.

Relative to Houston and Boston, I agree 1000000%.

At the time tho, I thought it was reasonable.

Manfred just can’t be consistent. Worst commissioner in sports.

I’d agree here. He’s getting Goodellish with his heavy handed approach to changing the game and it’s handling

The punishment should have gone forward or back but not both. If we had lost the guys we already signed and had to pay them we shouldn't have lost future signing opportunities. If it went forward we should have kept who we signed. Plus the Waters thing was a joke. We shouldn't have lost a pick. There is a mentality among commissioners Roger Goodell started. I miss the days of Paul Tagliabue and Bud Selig. Sports culture was better.

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

The Atlanta penalty was totally fair. The Braves forfeited every player they could not have signed if they had actually played by the rules and had two years of penalty added to the restrictions that were already in place under the rules.

I think the proportionality was just fine.

Disagree entirely but to each his own. I find it interesting that other teams knowingly did similar or worse for years... they didn’t get caught... except the dodgers and Yankees were investigated to have done similar things and it went away. Let’s say their GM cooperated...it's no less egregious.

But Coppy had to be one significant Jackazz to have put the Braves in that position by being smug enough not to cooperate.

I completely agree with this. The Astros were just to have found a way to directly, and after several warnings still continue to break the rules and won a WS because of it.

Just because Coppy lied, ban him. Don't ban the org that for all else cooperated but the guy in charge decided not to...

    It was over the top.

Hey Braves, we caught you red handed circumventing the rules, but we're gonna let you have the full benefit of all of that and slap you on the wrist with penalties you were totally willing to accept to game the system.

    That'll show you.

Hey Red Sox, Hey Astros, hey Dodgers and Yankees...the Braves gave kids extra money to circumvent the "integrity" of the game. Let's fire a kill shot to teach them a lesson. You guys can alter the game and pay Latin players too so we will tell you not to do it again and give you spring break passes.

    That showed other teams.

You've had some interesting takes Crack....this one...just not good at all.

I think making the players signed through the chicanery free agents was appropriate and some of the imposed restrictions were also appropriate. But extending the penalties as long as they have been extended is ridiculous. The individual player bonus cap of $10,000 that we will face next year is ludicrous.
