I agree that it probably won't kill the game - in the long run - but it's going to make it so much harder for it to recover completely for a good while. The changes Manfred has been trying to implement are because they've been worried about losing fans in the first place - disappearing for an extended period of time now puts them in danger of losing an entire generation of them.

If they feel they have to implement even more flashy changes a year from now to appeal to the parts of younger generations that haven't been interested or involved before now, they run the risk of alienating the generation that holds driver's licenses to take them to the park and give them the money to buy tickets.

Change in this country has always been a struggle - the fans will eventually come back (they always have), but it will take time. More time than the principals will like, and it will significantly dent their wallets for a while.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Is this as bad for the Braves that I am feeling it is? Between the cheapest years of our young stars AND lack of development for our young pitchers ?

Pretty much bad for everyone. Think of the Dodgers, giving up prospects for Mookie who may never have an AB as a Dodger. Or think of the Astros that now have to wait 1 or maybe even 2 years to set the all time record for team HBPs.

It could be worse. Most of our young talent is still controlled at reasonable prices for a while. Most of our older expensive talent will be gone after the season. We’re better off than most I’d say.

no one wants to say it, but Harry predicted a pandemic YEARS ago which was one of the big reasons he wanted to trade Freddie.

Not so. Teams who are rebuilding and/or have bad contracts see this as a way to mitigate past mistakes. Look at Detroit. They aren't competing under any circumstances. They have a couple of horrific contracts in Cabrera and Zimmerman that skipping 2020 helps fix, at least somewhat. Their best prospects are 23 or younger, so skipping a year still gives control through age 30. KC, Baltimore, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Miami, San Diego. Even Boston to an extent. There are 8-10 clubs who have a true dis-incentive to want to play at all this year.

    ISWYD

Of course, no one predicted a pandemic. I did predict that it was likely that the Braves would lose a season or more of Freeman's value before his contract was up. I was thinking it likely would be injury.

See it's easy to say that on paper, but what about the development of the minor league players? You can't just assume they will come out on the other side of this like where they left off. Who knows how much effort some of these minor leaguers are putting in, or if they even have access to facilities. I think it will be fascinating to see the outcome of all of this on minor leaguers for sure.

This definitely hurts a team like the Mets, their window was already short. Sure they had lost Noah for the season, but now Stroman will be gone and deGrom will be a year older. They'll only have Noah for one more year. On the positive end, Cespedes contract will be off the books.

Financially though, this can't be good for the Mets as a whole, with how cheap that organization is.

developmental issues are shared by all clubs. Teams with bad farms don't care. Teams with ok farms don't worry because everyone else is in the same boat. Teams with close players, but deficient ML clubs may see this as a way to legit keep guys down to gain another year of control while they sort their ML team (mainly by running through existing bad contracts).

Most teams will assume that their will be an AFL and/or winter league play.

But there are other insiders posting on Twitter that there is no deal close. Basically Heyman is the only one saying a deal is coming.
