    School Openings

We have no school age children at home. Many friends and our offspring do
Some are ready to "get on with life" Many are asking questions

Do you have children scheduled to resume school in the next month ?
    Your feelings ?
    Ages ?

Your reminder that the United States is the richest

nation in the history of the world.

So why can't we afford to safely return our children to school --

    with adequate distancing between them,

    extra classroom space,

    added teachers, masks, sanitizers,

    and temperature checks?

It is very important for schools to open. Every level of government should be making strenuous efforts toward having it happen as safely as possible.

The health risks are not to the kids but to older family members and to teachers and staff.

Massive testing would help...as in once or twice a month for everyone

But we dont have that capability

Our schools are a week away from going all virtual if the numbers don’t flatten

I have no clue how my wife and I will work while trying to teach our kids this fall. It’s a load of work, because I took it on from March til May.

Your kids are lucky. Most won't be.

On June 26th, there were 13 deaths in age group 5-14 out of 103,339 total deaths, .0001. The next age group on this source is 15-24, which had 125 deaths. Let's say they were all 18 and under... that's 138 total out of 103,339, .0013. No idea how kids in school would affect spread, but kids dying of this just isn't happening enough to keep kids out of school.

    So, all lives don’t matter

And those stats mean something if they don’t go back home where they will see parents and grand parents

Not to mention they aren’t teaching themselves

This plan is like if the highest of your circle of friends came up with an idea

And you all look at each other and then Back to him and tell him to shut up cause he’s too stoned

I would be interested to see a rolling and closely monitored reopening starting with lower risk locations and schools. Then we might be able to tell whether this was going to blow up in our face. I’m afraid there is a lot of pressure for everyone to open in August and we’ll be knee deep in it almost as soon as we realize there are problems.

This is a huge problem and we need to do what we can to reopen and mitigate those consequences if we can’t. That’s part of why we need to get this virus under control even if it is at the expense of some people’s ill conceived “freedom.” Society pays a price when people ignore common sense. Many people made sacrifices to get cases down and it’s been thrown away by stupidity. Now we have to ask ourselves whether we can do something far more vital than bars, indoor restaurants, protesting, going to parties, or just walking around not wearing a mask. This could be safe but now we have to have this conversation. The situation stinks.

    Yes

I know that the supposed greatest country on earth has a system in place where school is more a spot to feed a bunch of poor people instead of educate and some people don’t think this country should change at all for some reason

I'm not sure what schools your kids are in right now, but both K12 and Connections Academy offer free online schooling from your home. You may well have checked these out already but I'm just trying to help, hence my suggestion.

The flu kills kids at a much higher rate.

I guess school is cancelled forever.

The teachers union of course is fighting to keep kids out of school. All they care about is teachers pay and security.

    What a sham.
