A Small Observation About Florida Politics

In 2018, both parties had competitive primaries in the governor's race.

In both cases, there was one candidate that was clearly more accomplished and competent. And one that excited the base.

In both cases, the one that excited the base won.

Andrew Gillum beat Gwen Graham, with 34% of the vote to 31%, and Ron DeSantis beat Adam Putnam, with 57% of the vote to 37%.

This is the way our politics has gone lately. Red meat appeals over competence and the mundane compromises often necessary to move forward.

Let's hope that we learn to value competence (including the very important skills involved in making compromises) a bit more.

    "I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."

    "I am your retribution."
