Life expectancy is also obviously the reverse opium wars that will impact less economically advanced areas. But keep celebrating.

why would i be celebrating the deaths of fellow americans...i'm trying to enlighten y'all to the tragedy of poor healthcare policy in red states
an ongoing tragedy that is intensifying in its effects as reflected in the WIDENING GAP in life expectancy
the gap has been widening both before and after the fentanyl crisis...it has deeper roots in healthcare policy choices at the state level
but y'all be my guest and go right on spiking the football in celebration of your superior culture and the superior wisdom of your policy and other choices

Man, those blue states are such paradises that people can't wait to get the hell out of there. lol
The fact that Cal is having record movement out of the state might tell you that maybe the numerous articles I've posted might just be right.
All the money is in the hands of a few that skewers the stats.
If only chop country would hit it big.
Then maybe a red state would have “value”

California is so well off they were considering a 3 yr tax on people leaving so they could pay their bills

Income tax is near what… 50%?

Man, for the life of me I can't understand why people keep leaving these blue states. Man, they're such paradises!
Relying on the older stats that don't factor much into the total cost of living gives a false impression. There's more to it than just housing.
People are leaving Cal in mind blowing amounts for a reason. If people were happy there they would be staying.
Probably the sidewalk feces app.

Man, those California electoral votes/house seats are shrinking like hell.
Again, the issue is that SPM doesn't account for different things. You can live in LA County and have 2 totally different livable wages but they're all lumped together. Lancaster has a house value according to zillow of 459K, with a median household income around 71K San Marino has an average home value of 2.6M according to zillow and median household income of 175K. Your life in those 2 areas on the same salary would be drastically different.

Reddit is the second big IPO this week.
The first was Astera Labs. Domiciled Santa Clara, California.

Interesting article on who is moving out of California and why.

And to round off the picture there is immigration from other countries. I'll give y'all a guess as to which state(s) top that chart.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/...e-us-by-state/
So...the folks leaving California are older and less well-educated. Doesn't make them bad people.
The number of higher income people leaving spiked during 2020 and 2021 but is attenuating.
The number of young people with college degrees leaving is smaller than those coming in. Something that has held for a long time (but was briefly not the case during covid).
California leads in immigrants, both in absolute terms and as a proportion of population. This group is an important part of the secret sauce of economic dynamism for states like California, New Jersey, New York and Florida.
The states where immigrants constitute the smallest share of the population: West Virginia, Mississippi, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Alabama.
