Certainly big cities have their problems.
I'm surprised though how little gets said anymore about the "Deaths of Despair" phenomenon, mainly affecting older, white, blue collar men in red states or areas. The problems in this demographic have been severe enough to cause a drop in life expectancy.

Article on the rise in deaths of despair. I don't view it primarily from a red/blue lens. But the rise in those deaths has been concentrated in the reddest voting demographic group.

California was a reliably red state until 1992.
Less than 30 years later it has turned into a ****hole.
