I'd be interested to see the terms of the Houston offer Brantley accepted compared to the Toronto offer.

    2 years / $32m

Was reported as 3 year deal with TOR earlier...doubt that is true if this is the deal he is taking

2 years at 16 mill per is something the Braves should have matched. Huge need at the right price. I am starting to feel like we are going to be disappointed with AA come spring. He might be too cautious.

2/32 for Brantley is finally a data point we can use to start being a little concerned.

Optimists can say Brantley took a bit of a discount to return to Houston. They can also say the Braves are looking for an impact RHH, and a supplemental LHH, so that was too much to spend on a supplemental bat.

But this is definitely the type of outlay AA needs to be ready to pay if he wants to build a 95 win team.

Are turner and ozuna are 2 main targets? Obviously it would be 1 or the other, not both

Time to pony up and give Ozuna what he wants - DH or no DH. Then hope there's a DH and enough money left to add Rosario and a pen arm.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

I was thinking either of them and Hernandez, but it sounds like Hernandez will be priced out of our market. So we will probably just roll with Camargo....

This far into the offseason, i'm beginning to worry that AA chose to address the rotation and will run with Camargo @ 3B, Riley in LF....

We were 1 game from the WS last season, and a big part of that was because of what Ozuna brought to the table on the field, at the plate, and in the clubhouse.

Gotta think we add someone to address the offense, but i mean, players are coming off the board quickly now. AA needs to act fast. highly doubt we go into the year with Camargo/Riley as 3B/LF.

Not sure we can assume that Brantley would have accepted an offer from the Braves that matched the one from Houston. I know $ is the first consideration, but it seems that more and more players are giving some weight to other factors as well.

It may have taken more to get him out of Houston.

I feel like it’s gonna be someone like Puig on a one year deal and sign Melancon back. That might be it.

that would be really disappointing and point towards AA spending all of his money upfront. If they Puig is the big FA get then a trade better happen as well.

If Puig is the bat AA adds, that's a pretty dissapointing offseason, and makes the Smyly deal look really bad even if he has a great year. No reason AA should be shopping at the clearance rack.

Smyly 1yr @ $11m < Lester 1yr @ $5m (probably could have had him cheaper with hometown discount)

I think AA would like to bring Melancon back for the right price. In left, he'll likely go with a platoon. Maybe Joc Pederson and Duvall.

i'm OK taking the risk on Smyly here instead. much younger and better laster (short sample applies).

I see the upside that Smyly could have, but if money is as tight as it seems, i would have gone Lester, playoff experience, (maybe mentor Newk?) and a bench piece,

we still don't know how tight money is, though. Brantley may have preferred to stay in Houston and took less money to do so. it's a data point, but it isn't definitive. lots of shoes to drop.

if we get more similar data points, though, then yeah. i'd agree.

Rumors were that he preferred the AL, just as he did during FA his last go-around.
