i'm not too worried either. it obviously needs to be upgraded, but there's not huge differences between guys who have signed and possible options. there will be guys cut or otherwise made available on top of who's still out there. i think AA will sort it out and has a plan. i have to believe he wouldn't have spent all that money early if it meant he couldn't sign a guy he wanted for $2M.

am i in the minority thinking Melancon isn't that good? that AA could get someone who will be just as good this season for much less than $3M?

    Melancon had a 3.72 FIP, 4.42 xFIP with a 5.56 k/9. he's extremely average.
i do like the GB% tho

He has West Coast ties, he may have just wanted to go home. If not, I'm perplexed by this one.

I would've loved to have had him back as a 7th inning guy. He probably took a few days off my life in the closer role. In his defense, he converted the saves even if he was shaky

Melancon is fine for 3 million. But so are the pitchers we already have.

You aren't alone. While I wouldn't mind having Melancon, I don't want him closing out games for us anymore. I'd honestly like to see us add Clippard over Melancon or Greene.

I would have wanted him back, but not as a closer. We still need one more bullpen piece.

Greene's peripherals were very average in 2020, so I tend to agree. My preference would be Rosenthal, Clippard, Greene.

More Heyman: To explain the dollars on the Melancon deal, he prioritized winning and took the lowest offer but with the team with the best chance of winning (of the teams he had offers from). His mindset was to go to a winner, and not worry about $. Don’t forget, his previous deal was $62M.

That sounds a lot like we didn't make an offer.

Either Atlanta didn't offer or that's a shot at the Braves. lmao

Wow, 64 million. I hadn't realized just how stupid the Giants were.

Susan Collins is concerned about our bench.

His stuff has slipped and his K rate was awful, but I'd rather have him for 2m than not have him. I think a lot of guys could crash and burn, but that's just relievers.

*3 mil since you will most certainly be buying him out. i can understand being fine with him at that price, but all i'm saying is i don't think it's an indication that AA has no money to spend, and i don't blame AA for not offering that. i think he can move on and replace that production for less money pretty easily.
