I don't think Stroman at almost $19 MM is that great a deal for the Mets. It's a great deal for Stroman. If he was thinking he'd net a four-year deal, I don't how he ever got into Duke.

Me either. And will look even worse once we see what other bargain prices pitchers go for. Don't forget, he also essentially missed an entire season of pitching. So who knows how effective he will be.

Free-agent right-hander Josh Tomlin is back with the Braves. Per source, one year, $1M contract with $1.25M club option or $250K buyout for 2022.

Why are we giving Tomlin anything more than a ST invite? He's a medicore reliever that can give you a spot start from time to time. What can we get from Tomlin that we can't also get from Ynoa, Wilson, Newk, or Touki?

Also, I just realized that Ozuna was .013 batting average points away from winning the Triple Crown this year. An interesting question is, would he be the front runner for MVP had he been able to accomplish this? I mean it's a short season so it may not be viewed as impressive as other triple crown winners.

Under the category of lefty mashers who had down seasons and could play left a season or two until Waters is ready: Gallo and Schwarber.

The fact they are coming off down seasons and only have one (Schwarber) or two (Gallo) years of contractual control left would hold down the acquisition price. Schwarber would probably be a platoon with Duvall. Gallo an everyday player.

I still feel like Texas likely over-values Gallo. And it would be quite tough seeing someone struggle to hit even .200.

If the NL allows the DH, I can see Schwarber having a decent market. Not a top-tier guy by any stretch and I don't know if I want him in LF, but he has shown he can hit some. Big-time reverse splits.

Duvall would not only be the platoon partner but also late inning defensive replacement. Gallo is the better player but Schwarber would cost a lot less. We could get him for someone like Davidson or Muller.

I do think we need a lefty masher. Other than Freeman, our lineup skews sharply righty.

I also like one-year rentals. Cheaper. Player is motivated. None of the risk that comes with multi-year deals. Etc.

I think Tomlin is worth 450K more than those guys besides Wilson.

Tomlin gives us veteran laidership. Didn't he give Wright a tip about pitching on the other side of the rubber. I remember a couple years ago Anibal helped our young pitchers a lot.

Newk was quite a bit better than Tomlin in 2019 as a reliever. I'd easily take Wilson or Newk in the pen over Tomlin.

I feel like we have enough with Smith, Matzek, etc. I kinda doubt he'd get a guaranteed contract anywhere else, so if we were that interested in his vet presence, we could just put him on the opening day roster.

If the difference between 1 million for Tomlin and 500 for a rookie impacts ANY decision making we are in for a horrible summer and will get passed by the mets and nats.

Vet minumum for a guy who is good in the long relief role. Maybe spot start. Fried seems to need extra rest. Soroka will need to be stretched out. Anderson hasn't thrown many innings. We are going to need a guy like Tomlin and this is a really low number. As long as the Braves don't use him in any high leverage innings, he will be an asset.

Now seems like an odd time to add a low leverage BP arm at any price. Does anyone think Tomlin or someone better isn’t going to be available in 2 months? Why lock in that roster spot now?

Gausman received and accepted the QO? I'm reading and rereading this to see if it's a misprint or something. $18.9M? Are the Giants stupid?

AA is a numbers guy, but he also believes in certain intangibles. I bet he has tried to quantify those intangibles. I bet he has surveyed every member of the team and knows which of their teammates they go to for help when they are struggling.
