Frenchy stepping back from announcing to spend time with his family. He’ll be missed but nothing is worth missing seeing your kids grow up, so good for him.

CJ Nikowski is really good, so not like they have another Skip. Jeff and Brandon were really good as a duo though.

At least Carpenter can still get on base, even if the bat speed is gone. I would rather have a guy like that taking MLB at bats for a short time in an emergency, instead of some career minor leaguer like Drew Lugbauer.

Of course, it's possible Carpenter asked for his release and we granted it.

In the pre-DH era of longer benches when teams had a guy who was basically, a guy like Carpenter (even at his age) to serve as the go-to pinch-hitting specialist made some sense. With shorter benches, everyone on it has to play a defensive position so the type I have described has pretty much gone the way of the dinosaur. Depending on how much Carpenter still loves the game, he might not object to playing in AAA, but he's probably going to want to pick his locale and maybe Gwinnett just isn't that place.

My only question about releasing Chapman is why do it now? It's not like we're hurting for 40 man spots.

Maybe Chapman requested it so he can explore minor league deals with teams. Either that or AA needs some roster flexibility which would make one wonder why.

When did the Braves release Aroldis Chapman?

I hear his kid was walking too much in little league so he felt he needed to be there everyday to nip that in the bud.

Corbin Burnes on signing an extension if traded:

“Being in my shoes, being a year away from [free agency], I think if a trade-and-extension type of deal came up — obviously, every guy that gets this close to free agency wants to test the market to see what your true dollar amount is, see what teams really are in on you. It would have to be something that would just absolutely blow you away to get you away from testing the free agent market and being able to choose where you want to go. I think that’s one thing every player in their career wants to get to. Once you get that six years of service time — which for a lot of guys takes seven, eight, sometimes nine years to get to — you get that chance to test the market and see what your top dollar is.”

Corbin wont be a target then lol

So will the PTBNL from the Pirates and the White Sox will be a reliever decided on based how Stassi and Gonzalez figure in to their team’s plans in ST?

Sounds like Dodgers are either going to get Yamamoto or Burnes and Adames.

Which one would Braves fans prefer they get?

I say Yamamoto.

If the Dodgers get Burnes, the Yankees will get Yama. If the Dodgers get Yama I don't think the Yanks will trade for Burnes after trading for Soto, which means they will move onto another FA the Braves likely had a chance to sign like Monty or Stroman.

So based on all that wild speculation, I'd prefer the Dodgers trade for Burnes so the Yanks can sign Yama, which leaves less competition for the remaining FAs.

Of course, it's sounding like Cease may be traded pretty quickly after Yama signs, and the smoke is the Braves are frontrunners. I have to assume the Cease package is Grissom plus an arm (hopefully not AJSS or Waldrep).

Hard to see how we get Cease w/o one of Waldrep/AJ. I'd prefer to move AJS over Waldrep in that package.

Here's a guy making trade proposals that are perfectly reasonable: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ml...n&cvid=75e858e5c1c149b688aa0266cc3160c9&ei=22

The O's have a ton of OF/2B prospects and very little pitching to trade, while the Braves have Grissom for 2B and some nice MLB-ready arms. His proposals from the Os and Braves:

Heston Kjerstad, Joey Ortiz, Cade Povich, and Justin Armbruster

AJ Smith-Shawver, Spencer Schwellenbach, Vaughn Grissom, and Diego Benitez

The filler players don't really matter, but Kjerstad/Ortiz vs AJSS/Grissom seem like reasonably painful packages for Cease. I think I'd rather see AA just pony up the cash for Stroman if that's the true cost of Cease, who I'm not as high on as others due to the decline showing in most of his metrics.

As much as I would like to take care of getting one SP for 2025 now, at this point I'd rather keep what we have and see how it plays out. Maybe take a flier on an innings-eater type pitcher to get through the season.
