Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

More teams are going to do this. The savings on the prospect hitting is worth the risk of him busting. 30 mill is nothing compared to having a dude locked up for 6 years plus cheap club options. Kid will still get another huge payday if he is good. Just like Ozzie and Acuna both will.

Aaron Hicks signs with the Angels for 750k. Would have been a decent option for that last bench spot. But he probably figures to get more playing time in LA. Plus he is from Cali.

It makes sense for Hicks to join the team promising him the most playing time since his salary is already set. He would have filled the bench nicely though.

I cannot wait for this season to begin. This offseason has been brutal. lol

The lockout offseason was so fun lol, players signing left and right. It's damn near February and you still have the likes of Bellinger, Monty, Snell, Chapman, Soler among others still out there.

I feel like the Diamond situation has played a bigger role than previously believed.

However, with the Braves roster where it’s been at, we never entered this offseason with huge needs

Which has made it "easier" in some ways, but also really boring. That said, we were one of the more active teams. I think Atlanta made a great mix of moves

I don’t feel that a lot of teams got better really. The Yankees and Dodgers did some things. But no one in NL east improved really. Faillies big move was to resign their aging pitcher who might be on decline.

The Braves were the best team in NL and added two really good addition with no significant losses.

Dodgers made huge moves. They added one of the best bats in baseball and a potential ace. Yankees added a huge hitter in Soto. Yankees and Dodgers both basically have 2 MVP front runners on their teams at least. Dodgers have 3 if Freddie keeps being ageless.

Your'e not wrong that the rest of the NL East didn't improve much (Mets basically got a healthy Diaz back and not much else) Phillies will be better if Harper is healthy, but Phillies are a ticking timebomb, so many of their stars are over 30.

Dodgers added Glasnow, Ohtani, Hernandez, Yamamoto, James Paxton, kept Joe Kelly, will get Buehler back. They're drastically better. Yankees got Soto and Stroman, still think they need another piece. I agree about the NL East part though. Still tbd about other teams with so many players still unsigned right now.

Our needs are usually just SP/bullpen/LF every offseason. Next year it's probably just SP/maybe bullpen tinkering and DH/LF depending on Kelenic's progression or not. Maybe SS if Arcia ****s the bed and last year's a fluke.

Dodger$ did some things like I said. They will be right there with the Braves as class of NL.

I would be worried about pitching as a Dodger fan. Glassarm is always injured. Yamo should be good. Walker may not be himself. Kershaw hasn’t resigned yet. I like the Paxton insurance but he is not great. Then Miller should continue to improve hopefully.

Should be a fun season watching how the teams do.

Yamo/Paxton/Miller/Buehler/Sheehan/Glasnow is a pretty good top 6, although obviously some health risk with Glasnow and Paxton. And tbd how good Yamo is. I dont think they really need Kershaw, with Paxton there now. He might have taken his spot.

Baltimore Orioles are being sold to a group led by 2 billionaires and a smaller ownership amount for Cal Ripken Jr

Good. Would be nice to see that franchise run well again and be able to keep their stars rather than being a farm team for the Yankees and Dodgers of the world.

I've been a bit surprised that the Orioles have held onto all of their prospects this off-season (and they have a ton of prospects). One guy I was hoping the Braves would try to pry away is Joey Ortiz. He's almost aging out as a top-tier prospect and he hasn't hit at the major league level yet, but given our paucity of high-level hitting prospects I thought he'd be worth a shot. Problem is I don't think we match up that well in terms of what we have and what the Orioles might need.

But, like you, I hope the Orioles get a good ownership group that can run things well. That team has a bright future if things unfold as expected.
