GDT #19 4/21/14: Marlins (Koehler) @ Braves (Teheran), 7:10

I am all for calling a spade a spade in regards to Fredi....However, I dont get the bashing in this game. The bunt was the right call with Marmol's wildness. The first pitch swinging is on the players.

Why does wildness from a pitcher make bunting a good move? If anything wildness could make it harder to get a bunt down, which Jason didn't. Jason should have looked at a lot of pitcher, which every batter should have done (and they didn't).

Sorry. When trying to quickly type stuff up to combat the mass of idiots that have been posting in here tonight, simple mistakes like that happen. the point holds, though; bunting there, especially with how Heyward has been struggling, was the right move. He just didn't get it down.

heyward drove the go ahead run in earlier in the game

it was the wrong call

I just disagree philosophically. I think because he's been struggling and is your one of your catalysts, he has to be swinging there. All he needs is a single. A fly ball to right moves the guy over the same way a bunt does. He should have been able to get the bunt down, but he should not have been bunting IMO.
The way I look at it, he isn't a superstar player at this point. In that situation, from a pure baseball standpoint, you are bunting the runner to third unless you are a 'superstar' type player. I don't care if he is a 'catalyst' or not. He hasn't been playing like one. You play for the win and bunting there gives you the best shot; he just couldn't get it down.

If he gets the bunt down JS is on third. Hence the wildness factor.

Patience is the right call. If Jason swings there's a good chance he moves him over and also a chance he wins the game.

hope we keep it tied and it gets back to Heyward to hit a walk off homerun to prove how dumb the call was

Tensions are high in here. Everyone take a chillax pill. We're gonna be hee8a while.

Fredi is an idiot for bunting Heyward...

Side note. We begged for runners to get on for Freeman. Now that they are, he is going ice cold

I think they need to get him going like a "superstar." He can't be batting under .200. They need to get him going. He had an RBI single earlier, a nice drive - let him try it again. He's your leadoff hitter coming off a very good year. If a catalyst is struggling, you want to get them going. RBI opportunities get them going, while bunting a guy over doesn't. Even if he did get the bunt down, it was the wrong call. It did stink he couldn't, though.
