Biden Drops Out of Race

No, no that would not be smart in any way, shape or form. You need to engage your core voters here, not go fishing for right-leaning moderates.

Agreed. Manchin would not be the answer. Too deep in big energy's pocket. Not even loved in WV anymore.

The only thing I find curious today is Obama failing to endorse Harris. He’s not the day-to-day puppet master Conservatives make him out to be, but he’s still the most authoritative and popular voice in the party. My only guess besides him being in favor of an open convention is that Dems are trying to maximize the news cycle by having him endorse her closer to the convention in a big way.

Disagree. You have your core. You need to go for the people in the middle who don’t want Trump.

We have our core unless we do something stupid like run a deeply unpopular candidate like Joe Manchin. The base won’t vote for Trump, but there’s a good chance they stay home for Manchin.

Kelly, Shapiro or Cooper as veep would be a move to shore up support with centrist voters.

You think the undecideds and everyone else in the middle are going to line up to vote for Kamala? Really?

I think Obama is expressing support for an open and competitive process by holding off on any endorsement. But circumstances are such that it would be surprising if a serious alternative to Harris stepped forward. It wouldn't be a bad thang if it happened. But I don't think it will. Newsom has already tweeted out his support.

I agree. Harris should be looking to pick up support among centrist voters. I think Mark Kelly would be a great choice for veep in terms of helping her in that regard. I suspect, however, she will go with Shapiro (also a pretty good choice) due to the weight of Pennsylvania's electoral votes.

Agreed. I’m not going to stop advocating for a fresh ticket until it becomes apparent it’s not happening, but a popular Governor that isn’t from a massively Blue state is the answer for VP.

Honestly, I think the Dems just sealed the win in November as long as the anti-Trump vote turns out. The anti-Trump coalition is larger and more powerful than realized. The little red tinkle of 2022 should be the clue.

I think they’re more likely to vote for Harris/Bashear than turnout is to be high for Manchin.

I disagree. Manchin can make a case that he has more experience than them, he doesn’t vote down political lines, and he won a ****ing red state as a Democrat. You think Kamala would win a senate seat in West Virginia?

Bashear has a great profile for appealing to centrist voters. He'd be an excellent choice. But I suspect he will be bypassed in favor of someone from a swing state (such as Kelly, Shapiro, Cooper or Whitmer).

No, but Joe Manchin can't anymore either. There is a reason why he did not seek re-election.

I don’t, but she’s not running for Senate in West Virginia. She’s running for a country where you have to get young voters out to vote in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Georgia. They will not do that for Joe Manchin.

77 is another word for experience

It's gonna be a while before the party entertains nominating someone that age

You could certainly be right, but I don’t anticipate them wasting Shapiro as a VP candidate in a broken election cycle.
