Will we get a clear articulation of Harris’ positions before November, or will her campaign try to ride out the “vibes,” assuming it’ll be good enough to win? We are less than three months from Election Day and her website doesn’t have platform section.

Probably best not to. That just gives the right wing ammunition. Even popular opinions will piss off some people. Thee really are no right answers she can give. She has one major advantage in policy around abortion and that should be her focus

If she came out against tariffs aces might vote for her!

I’d like to believe it’ll be necessary for that to change, but I’ve been surprised by things just as stupid as that working.

Most voters seems to follow an inverse reasoning process. They decide based on their gut which candidate to support and then shop around for a convenient reason to do so.

The model is more along the lines of: I like Kamala more and this makes me think she will be better on the economy.

Not along the lines of: I think Kamala has the better economic policy ideas and I'm going to vote for here because of that.

Of course some people follow the second model. But most seem to follow a process closer to the first. Even people who like to think they are rational and vote on policy are often closer to the first model.

I'd probably agree with cajun at this point - until her lack of a platform is getting punished in the polls, it's probably the better strategy not to articulate one. And with so much of the electorate, and just as importantly the mainstream media, taking an "any able-bodied person over Trump" stance, I'm not sure if the pressure will come in time.

Is it fair to say you don't require knowledge of any policy position in order to pull the lever for a candidate?

The answer is obviously no. They’ll say it’s because of the presence of Trump but the reality is they’d do this whoever was the evil Republican candidate.

Until that person is no longer in office and then they praise them (bush/mccain)

in my case it would be take a soiled diaper over trump

and Harris meets that standard fairly comfortably

I don’t think the media will come around for the right reasons, but after the convention I think the pushback from the right will shame them into action. And it’s correct for the Right to do this. While I understand the strategy from the Harris campaign, I don’t respect it. If you’re going to anoint a new candidate without opening up the process, the onus is on you to have your policy plan ready.
