GDT 8/31/24: Braves @ Phillies - Huge Game On Fox

I don’t think anyone is putting SS in front of Fried just yet. Talking about a rookie without much track record and pitching way more innings over a proven stud. Just not going to happen.

2nd half...
Fried: 5.26 era, 2.67 FIP, 3.46 xFIP
SS: 2.98 era, 2.77 FIP, 2.22 xFIP

I guess it's close, but give me SS. SS rocking 12.9 k9 with 1.70 bb9. Fried over 4 bb9

Fried...
3.52 era, 3.79 xera
3.59 FIP, 3.53 xFIP
8.23 k9, 3.20 bb9
2.4 fWAR (140.2 ip)

SS...
3.72 era, 3.04 xera
3.12 FIP, 3.09 xera
10.55 k9, 1.86 bb9
2.1 fWAR (87 ip)

Seriously, how can you justify starting fried over SS in game 3 of WC? SS is just better.

The big difference between these two teams is Wheeler will throw a shutout when you need a shutout. Fried is out here giving up bombs to Edmundo Sosa.

If we see them in WC round, it will be sale vs wheeler, not fried. I wouldn't use fried vs them at all

There is 0.0% chance they will not use Fried in the first three games. Depending on how the last month goes and assuming all of the top four make it healthy, one of Lopez/SS will be used in relief. This is still the same manager that only started Soroka once in four games against the Cardinals in 2019. I also think it's very unlikely we make it to October with all four (five counting Morton) healthy. It has never worked out that way for us.

This is the same manager that let Elder face the lefties in game 3 with guys on base. This is the same manager that left strider in when he was topping out at 94-95. It doesn’t matter what happens or what the numbers say. Fried will be game 2 starter because managers for dummies said so.

I will say that if we face another team in the WC round, I might would start fried, but certainly not vs the Phillies. They hit him well

Out of the next 20 games, the braves have to take advantage... Phillies, 3x Rockies, 3x blue jays, reds, 2x at nats, 4x at dodgers, 3x at reds, and 3x at marlins.

I assume they'll shuffle things over the final 26 games and there will likely be an injury, but right now, if the order stayed the same and the season came down to game 162, the decision would be to start SS or go with Sale. I think Snit would go with Sale. Fried would be pitching that Saturday most likely, so Game 1 of the WC round on Tuesday would be started by either Lopez on three days' rest, SS on extra rest, or Morton (a classic Snit move).

If they don't go at least 10-5 against Colorado, Toronto, Cincy, Wash, and Miami, they'll probably miss the playoffs.

I know most will disagree with me, but given the schedule and that Philly just doesn’t look that great - especially with Harper hurt - especially since all star break - I think we end up taking them down.

This is contingent upon beating them tonight and continuing to take games seriously and stay red hot-
And, of course, Snitker maybe finally learning to pull the starter a batter or two earlier
