NBA Thread

That said, I'm not of the belief he should lose his team or anything .He is the rightful owner. But, when you say something so asinine, when black people are what drives your product...there are going to be repercussions. Should the black people playing for him not be upset about this?

Everyone has a right to be upset about anything. Thats their right. But, Sterling has done things in the past that don't necessarily paint him at a bigot. He very well could be but a private conversation that was evasive at best to the point of him being a racist doesn't instantly make me think he is a member of the KKK.

THEY DID WANT THEM.
That's the whole beef. ESPN wanted them, NHL went elsewhere (probably because ESPN coverage sucks) and ESPN has been mad ever since.

Cash talks. The NHL would have gladly taken more money if they were offered it.

Sterling is so awful that he pays a black coach among the highest salaries in the sport plus giving up a first round pick for him.

Clearly he hates black people so much that he denies them fair opportunities.

Nothing like a good ole' strawman to not support any kind of point at all.
He's about the money, obviously. He knows what will work and make him money. Doesn't make what he said any less moronic or wrong. Especially when black people are a large majority of your employees.

Where/who was the moron that compared Jay-Z and his lyrics to Sterling? That's a freaking GEM of a comment.

Assumptions and Strawmen.
That should be like, your motto.

Every professional organization wants to be on ESPN first and foremost. They are the authority as of right now in terms of sports. ESPN did not want to give the NHL what they wanted because the ratings don't justify it.

Proof?
What did the NHL want, what did ESPN offer, and why was it not worked out?
Clearly you know.

You can focus on either part you want. I do believe that he is a racist in general because of the time period he came from but I don't think it really affects anyone and should not lose his team because of it. Again, he did not HAVE to bring in Doc. He did not HAVE to hire a black GM at a time when no black people when GM's.

The NAACP was going to give this man an award for fark sake.

This man was probably jealous because his 35 year old gold digger of a g/f was hanging out with Magic and it looks bad around his fellow white racist people. He doesn't necessarily say that he is a racist even though that scumbag girlfriend tried to get it out of him.

Are you actually making the claim that ESPN is not the first place that all sports organizations want to go to?

ESPN has shotty coverage on everything that isn't NY, BOS, LeBron, Kobe, Harper's testicles, or NFL based. There's was more that went down besides just figures not agreed upon. ESPN has slowly started to increase their NHL coverage after pretty much leaving it off SC for years due to the feud. NBA gets a boost from the morons who don't really follow it but still watch because ESPN tells them to.

What makes her more of a scumbag than him?

Yeah, sure the world is a bunch of morons for liking basketball (probably the third most watched/played/followed sport in the world).

Clearly we are all missing something on hockey.

NBC gave the NHL a 10 year contract to cover the playoffs. Why does the NHL need ESPN?

Did I say he wasn't a scumbag? The guy is rich and deals with real estate. I'm sure he has done many shady things in life. But, I am not necessarily going to say he is a KKK member because of this. He has done plenty of things that have given people of all colors opportunities and thats all you can ask for. You can't make people like everyone.

I'm not sitting here making statements as fact that I have no idea about like you are. There is a lot more that goes in to it, as gilesfan chimed in, than just money. So no, not everyone wants to run to ESPN necessarily. NBA does because it ropes in morons who know little of the sport except for what they show on ESPN. Their "in-depth" coverage on most things is laughable, and their analysts are mostly complete jokes.

Good for the NHL. Hopefully they start doing better. They are bringing in top ratings for them in comparison to the past. Still doesn't change the fact that not enough people are watching.

I'm fine with basketball in general.
The NBA is a joke of a league though.

I agree that ESPN is a joke but if you are a professional sports organization you want to be on ESPN. Plain and simple.
