There’s a few left coded I find insightful (even if I disagree with them). Mehdi Hassan, Destiny… just to name a few. The problem is the core audience for them is going to be hardcore politics.

Probably the closest you’ll see to a center left coded mainstream is the Ringer podcast network. Maybe Simmons will start interviewing more thought leaders like Rogan does, but I kinda doubt it.

I think he could pull it off, but then again, it seems like there’s a backlash (from the left) whenever he starts to swim in political waters. I’m still laughing about the blowback he and Russillo got when they talked about the George Floyd riots because (1) they’re two rich white men and what gives them the right! and (2) they also had the audacity to run a sports segment on the same podcast.

It felt like he went out of his way to avoid talking about this election (which he basically confirmed on his Tuesday pod). And I get the sense he’s more concerned with ruffling the feathers of his far left staffers than alienating and center-right listeners. Gets me back to my point discussing this with mqt yesterday, where I wonder if the intolerance of today’s left is the biggest obstacle to them having Rogan-type influencers approaching Rogan’s level of influence.
