Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Soto going to the Mets pissed off both Yankee fans and Nats fans. Plus by going to the Mets he is bound to turn into an albatross sooner rather than later.

I think Soto will age fine. He's in pretty solid shape, only 26. Hasnt had any serious injuries. Would hate to see him go to the Mets.

I think Soto will age well, his hit tool will be fine. He will end up at DH at some point but that’s a ways off. It’ll suck seeing him in a Mets uni bc no way Cohen lets him go any where else.

The Dodgers have joined the Soto sweepstakes. Soto headed to Dodger stadium this week to visit. That would start a $hit show throughout baseball if it happened.

Jayson Stark put out his annual MLB executive survey. Not a ton of Braves stuff that's surprising - most think Fried is gone. The Crochet topic was the most interesting. He polled 18 executives - Mets had the most picks with 5 but the Braves were second with 4. Here's what he wrote about the Crochet-Braves connection:

The Mets were the most popular destination here -- as they were in our question above about free agent aces -- but some voters who picked New York mentioned they weren't overly confident about the choice. Members of our panel who picked the Braves see Crochet as a replacement if Fried leaves in free agency. Atlanta and Chicago already have connected on trades since Chris Getz took over as White Sox GM, which could help in laying the groundwork of a deal this winter.

"Sox would rather put him in the NL," one voter said. "Wouldn't rule out other big-market clubs. Where Garrett wants to sign an extension is a factor and would think Atlanta is the most appealing landing spot for him long term."

What a thrilling ****ing off-season so far.

What do you mean? Today (Tuesday, November 19) is the deadline for putting guys on the 40-man roster. I miss clvclv every day, but I especially miss him today. I think next to Christmas and his birthday, this is the day that was next in line on his red-letter calendar.

For the record, Braves have four spots (last I checked) available, but only one guy (Luis De Avila) who needs to go on the 40-man roster to avoid being eligible for the Rule 5 draft. Seeing the Braves have a half dozen guys on the 40-man roster they could jettison, not much drama.

EDIT: Oops. Braves have two 40-man spots open. Braves put Domingo Gonzalez and Rolddy Munoz on the 40-man in the last week (Munoz yesterday). Rolddy is the identical twin brother of former Braves minor league pitcher Roddery Munoz who is now with the Marlins. I still think one of them should retire and then secretly join the team for which the other one is pitching. Confuse the heck out of the opposition when there's a Munoz on the mound every day.

"The Dodgers will join the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, and Blue Jays in having met with Soto already, although Feinsand also reports that an undisclosed team in addition to that group has already met with Soto as well"

Secretly meeting with Soto is exactly what AA would do. I'm not saying the Braves are at all likely to give someone $600M, but it's at least remotely possible.

I find it interesting that these teams need to meet with Soto, like, in person. I think his work speaks for itself. What could he possibly say that would sway them one way or the other? "I'll play for free." ?

need to show him all the rockers on the porch with a huge lawn and no dame kids on it. Something he is growing more fond of every year.

It's their chance to wine and dine him and tell him how much they are trying to win. It's not so teams can determine if they want to sign him.
