Maybe they'd eat 20M of it as a payback for the Nate Mclouth deal.
We have no place for arreaz, but his .career .372 ops in front of Acuna, Riley, and Olson would be great.
Keller is going into his age 29 season with an xwOBA of .317 the last 3 years over 531 IP, and is the very definition of a bulk innings #4 with some people arguing he's a #3. He’ll make $15MM in 2025, $16.5MM in ’26, $18MM in ’27 and $20MM in 2028. That's not a horrible deal for a guy who should give 600+ innings of average pitching for the next 4 years. He doesn't have a ton of surplus value, so he should come at a reasonable price.
SD seems willing to deal Arreaz and Cease. While Arreaz is the modern embodiment of empty batting average the dinosaur fans probably love, Cease would actually be a great get. Oh, and he's a local so would maybe sign some sort of extension for a 50% discount.
That’s worse than Adam Duvall last year.
I forgot he was from Georgia.
That’s the good news. The bad news? He’s a Boras client.

Braves signed RHP Wander Suero to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Suero, 33, made just one appearance at the big league level in 2024, allowing a hit and ultimately a run to the only batter that he faced in a loss against the Royals. He was terrific at Triple-A Sugar Land though, posting a 2.66 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 71/33 K/BB ratio over 67 2/3 innings of work. He makes for a very nice bullpen depth addition for the Braves

So the Cubs aren’t wanting to eat any money. Nobody is gonna give up assets and pay him 30 million. He wouldn’t sniff 30 million on the open market.
33 walks in 67 innings is terrific?????
His numbers in the big leagues pre-2021 were a bit better than that. He looked like he was going to be a force when he pitched with the Nationals, but that's a ways back in the rearview mirror right now. Missed 2022 and I'm guessing that was due to a major arm injury. Like Tapate50 wrote, he's worth a gamble on a minor league deal. Great K numbers.
