Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Yeah I can see the argument that he's better value, But yeah Dansby has been worth like 5 more WAR than Arcia. But his excess dollar to war is like 38M, while Arcia is like 20M so you could debate some aspects (like other players we were able to get because we weren't paying Swanson that much money) but yeah he's certainly not better.

Agree. It's kind of the baseball law of thermodynamics that if you only have so much to spend given constraints a team that doesn't want to blow out every level of the luxury tax has, you're not going to have an all-star at every position. That said, there's no column on the stat sheet that tracks WAR/$. Performance is what performance is.

Bellinger traded to the Yanks per Passan. Unclear how much money they're eating and what NY is trading to the Cubs. Just 5M, the Cubs are eating, not a ton.

Cubs are eating the buyout for next year. So Yanks are basically paying his entire 2025 salary. He will opt out next year most likely. Still weird to me that there is a buyout for a player opt out. It is a free $5 million

Honestly it's a really smart trade for the Yankees. This insures Judge doesn't need to patrol CF. Jasson can either play CF or LF. Bellinger is either the 4th OF or starting LF and VErdugo goes to 4th OF. I would sniff around Verdugo as a 4th OF if the Yankees are shopping him, Only problem is he's a lefty so he doesn't compliment Kelenic. But he's been a better player than Kelenic so we could replace him.

Anyway. Smart move for the Yankees I"d say.

Verdugo is FA, right?

There’s another option gone. Unless he trades for a young controlled OF I have no clue who he will get. I’m gonna guess Profar

Profar makes sense, but could see him return to the Padres as well.

The Padres sound like they are trying to cut money. I think Profar is gonna be one that AA can get on a cheap deal bc he over priced himself early. I can’t believe Burnes is still out there.

Profar seems like a good 1 year deal option. With his long track record of failure only a stupid team would give him a multi year deal. If he had any confidence in himself he would want a 1 year prove it deal. With 2 straight years of success teams wouldn't think it was a fluke.

Speaking of the Padres I rather get Arraez from them. Let him play LF mostly. His bat contrasts with our sluggers which should help the teams consistency.

Can he play LF? He would be my target 1 if he can. We need his obp in front of Acuna, Riley, and Olson

I assume almost anyone can that can if they can play the middle infield. Another bonus with him is he has reverse platoon splits so opposing managers who bring in a RH reliever to face him are playing themselves.

He has played a lot of LF but it appears he doesn't grade that well out there. He had a career year with the bat at age 31 which could be a blip. Good walk rate at most of his stops. .380 OBP in 2024 looked really good. His isoOBP has been pretty solid throughout his career.
