More accurately I think his source jumped the gun. The Sale trade was easier to be more of a firmed up sure thing because it was a trade with no other teams still involved.
Probably. Although he just posted on Twitter a screenshot of the conversation where Verlander and Scott were confirmed. But I’m sure that could be faked.
Thing is, while this is still a really good team and a really good roster, there are clear, obvious weaknesses that need to be addressed. Anthopolous or beat writers can try to frame this as silly fans who just want to see activity for the sake of activity, but right now we have one outfielder we can count on in any real sense (and even Harris has his issues). Right now it sure looks like Bryan De La Cruz is going to see a lot of playing time at the beginning of the season, which is a pretty terrible set of words to write.
It's not realistic to expect the Braves to keep pace with/spend at the level of the Dodgers, but if your priority is to put together the best possible team, this offseason doesn't make sense. If your priority is resetting the luxury tax, well, it makes perfect sense.
What could kershaw be had for? I kinda like this risk if the money isn't crazy
Kershaw won't be back til midseason.
That guy is a Dodger lifer. Do you think he's going anywhere but LA now that they're the class of professional sports?
I suspect they'll sign him once you can place guys on the 60 day IL.

In terms of signings, the Braves need Flaherty, Santander and Estevez/Yates to get even close to LA, and we know it's not happening. Or a trade for an above-average player plus two of those. There's still time, but the rest of teams (Jays, Red Sox and Cubs, notably) have been in on many players are probably desperate.
Braves will make the playoffs. Once you're in, it's all luck anyway. Our 2021 team was close to our worst team in this window
I am old enough to remember the Yankees dynasty of the 1990s. They were just better.
Winning is very hard and luck is involved but it's not all luck. You can't just shrug your shoulders and say that.

They almost didn’t make them last year. It took the Mets basically throwing Game 162. Nothing has been done to make the team better.
