Floyd Activated Sunday: What Would You Do?

DOB story indicates Braves really have no idea what to do with him, points out he has not pitched in reliever but once since his rookie season and quotes him saying the right thing. But those quotes almost sound like he's got his fingers crossed:

“There’s guys that are pitching really well so far” in the rotation, Floyd said. “What’s going to happen, I don’t know. It’s a decision they’re going to have to make. I’m staying mentally ready for being a starter, but I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Floyd has a 70-70 caree record and 4.48 ERA in 199 games including 187 starts. He made 11 relief appearances early in his career with the Phillies and White Sox, but Floyd has pitched in relief just once since 2008.

“I’ve been a starter all my career,” he said. “I don’t know. To have surgery, come back, and feel the way I feel, feel really good, if I’d have gone into surgery expecting to be where I am now and demand anything…It’s just one of those things where I feel thankful just to be able to pitch again. But obviously my heart’s (with) being a starter.”

Is there a solution. I proposed trading him last week and was pretty much shouted down. What, people, should they do?

I'd like to put Harang in a long-relief role. If our middle-to-late-inning relievers don't pick their **** up, we may have to move Wood there for the time being, at least until Wren can find someone.

My initial thought is to put him in the rotation over Harang. But who's to say he's a better option right now?
I guess I'd still lean towards giving him a shot over Harang. So that.

Who goes down to make room for Floyd? Ian Thomas? Then you leave Avilan as the only lefty in the pen unless you move Wood to the pen and send Thomas down. That would certainly strengthen the pen, but it also would weaken the rotation.

I would send David Hale down to Gwinnett and keep him as a starter in case we need him later, and move Harang to the bullpen as the long man.

Agree

One lefty in the bullpen then? That is pretty stupid. Not too mention Avilan doesn't pitch in tight situations right now.

Floyd needs to replace Harang in the rotation, I expect that will happen eventually but we may have to watch Harang have a few more bad games first.

I think they want Harang to start and build up more trade value while letting Floyd build up his arm strength. They may be able to get a B-/B prospect for Harang from some desperate team that maybe in the playoff hunt.

His trade value was probably as high as it's going to get before his last start. Given our schedule this month I doubt it goes up (and I expect it to go down the longer the he stays in the rotation).

His trade value is still next to nothing. Ride him until he's bad, then bye, thanks for your help. We paid him a million bucks, nothing to be sorry for.
