2025 Around The League Thread

Not sure I would count Willy out just yet.. He started horribly and has started to improve over the last 2 weeks. I am not really interested and looking at the inputs, but I bet they are pretty close to last years with a few SSS noise issues. Check back in a month and see where he is at.

Average EV is on par. But his BABIP suggests he isn't getting too terribly unlucky, at only .25 under his career average.

It's probably a combination of a little crappy luck plus moving to one of the most pitcher friendly parks in the league sapping his power. The decline in his defense in more concerning honestly. He's rated as one of the worst defenders in baseball thus far on the heels of 2024 season that also saw his defensive metrics decline considerably.

yeah, I defensive decline is a real concern.. I never really considered him an option since we all know AA..That was not a move he was going to make, so I didn't even bother looking at his defensive abilities.

also good point on the park factor.

After all I've heard about the dodgers' staff being a mess, here's the weekend matchups...

Holmes vs Yamamoto (1.06 era)
SS vs sasaki (3:55 era)
Elder vs may (3.95 era)

Braves may be 0-6 vs dodgers by Sunday night. Hopefully SS pulls one out
So easy to see coming

Braves haven't won a playoff series since FF left. AA destroyed this team
Folks can point to this past offseason or last years trade deadline as where AA started to fail. But this point right here is the reason. He ripped the heart from the team and thought he could just assemble baseball cards to do the job. He needs to be fired and the whole org flushed of these stupid Cox holdovers that reek with failure.

Isn’t this kinda all on FF tho?

Don’t we know his agent screwed around and FF did too?
I look at it this way. Did the Braves benefit when FF signed with the Dodger$. If not then it was on the team to do everything possible to make a deal happen. Even if you have to float fake news articles that you are moving on before you in fact move on. FF is fine being paid by the Dodger$. The Dodger$ are ecstatic AA walked without notice.

It is the Braves’ fault that freeman took less money to go to the dodgers because his agent was playing games. Makes total sense really

At the same time, nickel and diming over 1 extra year at the end of what is perceived to be our competitive window probably wasn't the best decision. Especially when you factor in the value of the package we traded for Olson, only to sign Olson to a similar contract that Freddie wanted.

man I really thought there were smarter folks around here.. the whole FF took less to go to the Dodger$ stick is simple minded, and that is a nice way of saying it.

the Braves 'reportedly' offered 5/140 or 28 million.. when his agent countered, the Braves pivoted and grabbed Olson.

The Dodger$ signed him for 6/162 or 27 million per.. So over 5 years, FF lost 5 million to gain the extra 22 million guaranteed. I am sorry, but getting the extra 22 million is not taking less when you are looking at a guy who would be 37 after 5 years of signing his contract.

now, outside of the Max Sherzer over pay, there are not many cases of 37 year olds getting huge deals.. But even if FF wants to keep playing at 37/38.. I doubt the contract difference given to him at 37 versus 38 was not going to be 22 million (the 27 million he was given for his 6 year less the 5 million he lost over the other 5 years)

This doesn't even take into account that when the Braves left the room, the Dodger$ basically had the leverage on any negotiations.

Lol, what? The overall dollars on the contract is less than what the Braves offered. Period. And that’s before taking into account the deferred payments until the end of the century. Those millions are just going to keep depreciating in value. He got a worse deal than if he stayed with the Braves, no matter what kind of mental gymnastics you want to play.

where are you seeing the overall dollars.. I have only seen the 5/140 was as high as the braves went. His agent countered with 6/160 something.. but the Braves never went that high.
