GDT 5/13/25: Braves vs Nationals - Another Chance at .500

Baldwin and Murphy both need to be in the lineup. Idk how, but I suspect this is where State would tell us that Freddie would be able to play third so we could put Baldwin/Murphy at first and Riley in LF.
I just hope State doesn’t figure out that Dansby has already hit like 6hrs and Max has a 1.0 ERA…..

But yeah - it would be nice if Drake could somehow play LF…. He has a good enough arm it certainly seems - and hell he’s young- I bet he can cover some ground - can’t be any worse than some of the other LFs we’ve trotted out there in the past…. Like Klesko …(not that repeating a bad idea is a good idea, but still )

How effing hard is it to put him in LF for 7 innings and then defensive sub him in for the last 2 innings?
Verdugo hasn't been real good out there. That being said I don't know if I'd want to put him out there if he doesn't know what he's doing. He should definitely be working on it though.

I bet it would be bad.

Ozuna to LF would be the move. He actually know hows to play the position.

I mean it isn't like we haven't tried it before. Drake is pretty athletic and he's young. And we aren't talking about putting him out there every game. But it wouldn't hurt to let him start 2 games a week in LF and 2 games a week catcher.

I suppose putting Ozuna in LF might be a better option. All I know is, we can't afford to have Drake's bat on the bench.

Have to keep Baldwin in there no matter what. At this point, there is no clear NL Rookie of the Year candidate. Baldwin winning it would give us an extra first round pick in 2026.

This is a good point. Doesn’t he have to be on a couple of top lists? He probably is.

You need to be on 2 of the 3. ESPN, Baseball America, and MLB Pipeline. Baldwin was in all 3. He meets all the criteria if he wins the award. Even with not playing everyday I'd say he's the front runner at the moment. It's been a weak class so far.

It is so stupid that they need to be on the lists.

That said, if the Phillies can win with Castellanos in RF, the Braves can win with Ozuna or Drake in LF. It’s time.

Being on the top 100 lists isn't perfect but it's a decent starting point. The whole idea is to stop teams from playing service manipulation games and play their top prospects from day 1. Generally you are going to be on a top prospect list if that situation applies to you.

I feel the problem with that is that it incentivizes voters to vote a particular way, instead of voting for the guy that deserves it the most.

For instance, media members in the Philly, NY, LA, and DC regions may be more inclined not to vote for Drake because it benefits their teams more if the Braves don't receive an additional 1st round pick.

Fair point, but they’re “supposed” to be impartial.

Yeah - and Auna and Strider are coming. Perhaps the best thing for a long season is to try and keep Murphy healthy and platoon them…..
It’s not the best thing for Murphy as we have seen. Plus, we need both bats in the lineup. Plus plus, we need Murphy’s elite catching.

And plus plus, you guys make a good point about getting that ROY and the draft pick - doubt he wins that only playing three times a week.

Sure that's possible but I doubt writers care that much. They get rotated around every year too. Last year the Padres would have gotten a pick if Merrill would have beaten out Skenes. He actually got some votes from LA and SF writers. Fans care way more about that shit than writers.

But hurts teams who have guys come out of nowhere. Guessing Schwellenbach wouldn’t have qualified last year (not that it mattered). But it could matter. I get what they’re trying to do, just kinda weird.
