I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

i dunno...states have discretion in a federal system...like DeSantis said he wouldn't extradite a certain felon

but i think this is a much more serious situation...we have been invaded and occupied and our national identity is at stake

last I checked the US Constitution grants the federal government authority with regard to immigration. The people breaking our laws in this instance are the political leaders of California

it sure does...and states and localities have authority over their resources

what's the problem...the constitution gives the president authority to pursue mass deportations but not authority over state and local resources in the pursuit of that end

and the constitution gives us the right to protest against policies we disagree with

it does not give us the right to engage in crimes while doing so....although civil disobedience has a long and honorable tradition

Is it your position that the only way to deport an illegal alien is that the state police force must do it?

what did i say to make you think that...the federal government has the constitutional power and the resources to do this...if a state decided not to allow its resources to be used for that purpose i believe that is also allowed under the constitution

so your position is that states have the legal right to violate federal law when it comes to immigration, correct?

it is not a state responsibility....the federal government has plenty of resources to enforce its laws...unless the courts rule otherwise I believe that states and cities are within their legal rights not to cooperate with federal law enforcement...and certainly in the case of the mass immigration sweeps being conducted by ICE a policy of non-cooperation is something i strongly support...we do have a federal system after all

Oregon has the oldest law on the books restricting such cooperation. It goes back to 1987. This not something new under the sun.

It becomes a question of whether you think ICE should be abolished or not.

The stated policy goal of the LA protests is to abolish ICE. Not reform ICE. Not that Homan should step down. Abolish ICE.

What’s the point of immigration laws if you don’t /can’t enforce them?

Well there are a lot of demonstrations pushing for an end to mass deportation but not the abolishing of ICE. I would daresay we are a strong majority.
