2025-2026 offseason thread

They can't count on him as an option or it'll be 2025 all over again. They'll have to get a legit SP and then guys can fill in where needed from AAA.
Of course - 100%- but don’t think they aren’t thinking about it…. I don’t trust ‘em.

I know Enscheff was excited to see the recitation of the 26-man roster if we got player A and player B. Early start this year!

The crux of what I'm saying is we don't have trade Murphy or break the bank to fortify the roster and be able to properly rest our players throughout the season.

He should be an option for next year but not one we look to start the season with. Elder Waldrep Ritchie and Fuentes need to be part of our depth not pitchers that we're pinning our hopes on.

I've long disliked Bummer. Dude is overrated. Hopefully some team is dumb enough to take him but I doubt it. AA was a fool for trading for him.

Bummer is ok for mop up duty (the dugout after the game) but that’s about it. He blew multiple games this year with that damn curve ball landing in places other than the catchers mitt. Specifically, by my count he was directly responsible for five losses- including the 1-0 loss in San Diego way back in March. And he tried to lose a few more including the one against the Yankees where he gave up three runs on three hits in .2 of an inning. I despise him like, well, there are no words.

RDAI (regular dumbass) Summary : Bummer has no more business in a Braves uniform than does Dan Kolb or Jo Jo Reyes.

Bummer is good at what he does. He's a ground ball specialist that should ideally predominately face LHH while also being able to provide some length in low leverage situations. His biggest issue has been that he hasn't been used properly due to a lack of better options

We're definitely not getting him at a discount but all things considered I think he's probably getting the market rate.

1 war is worth roughly $10 million, iirc. Bummer is pacing about 0.5 war. So Bummer is going to be making about twice what he's worth next year assuming he plays like he did this year.

Assuming a new manager and a stronger pen, we can assume that he will be used more advantageously…. Right????

Bummer would be better with a better manager I'm guessing but he wouldn't get 9.5 per on the open market.

He probably wouldn't get 9.5 but I could easily see him getting 1/8. But he also only will count 6.5 against the luxury tax for us next year
Kenley Jansen settled for 1 year at 10 million and he's been consistently one of the best relievers in the game. Bummer is the definition of mediocrity. He wouldn't have gotten 9 million last off-season on a 1 year deal. This coming off-season, he would almost assuredly have to take a minor league deal if he were a FA.

Pivoting a bit here, we have got to address the elephant in the room regarding Ozzie. While we should probably let him walk, I just highly doubt AA is gonna let him walk over a difference of 3 million. I assume the thought process is that full off-season of rest will allow Ozzie to regain strength and get back to some sort of semblance of the hitter he was prior to 2025. But if that the the bet we are making, we need to have insurance. WIlli Castro or Miguel Rojas as a super sub type of player needs to happen. If Ozzie continues to struggle, you replace him with Rojas/Castro. If he bounces back, you still have these available to play all over the place and give rest to Acuna, Ozzie, Riley and whoever plays SS

Bummer is just having a bad year. It happens to relievers. Aside from the elite ones (who are usually closers), they are rarely great year in and year out. Everyone wanted Tanner Scott in the off-season, and he’s been horrible this year.

Point is, you can do a lot worse than Bummer as a mid to high leverage LHP for 9 million. Unless his stuff has just completely deteriorated over the last year, which is also certainly a possibility. His metrics this year don’t look good, for what that’s worth.
