GDT 8/20/25 - Braves vs White Sox - Getting More Waldrep Data

Quantril isn’t exciting but I’d much rather watch him than Fedde or Elder… or if Strider is being shut down that also makes sense. I’m not sure if Ritchie gets a look or not

Strider being out makes it more possible, not less
Strider is far more likely to pitch well than Bryce Elder. Over the last 2 years, Elder has the highest ERA (6.36) in baseball with a minimum 150 innings. The next closer pitcher is someone named Slade Cecconi, whose ERA is nearly a full run lower at 5.50

Strider is done though... at least for this season. Even this season, elder is a better option in August than strider.

Stop it. Elder is not a better option than Strider. You are letting 3 bad starts distort your view of Strider this season. He had a 3.71 ERA barely 3 weeks ago.

Elder has been the worst pitcher on the planet over the last year. Actually since July 1, 2023 he's been the worst pitcher in baseball and it isn't particularly close.

So yes, it is a major downgrade going from struggling Strider to always struggling Elder.

I posted their August stats. Sure it's a small sample, but strider is in a free fall, and he publicly said he can't fix his issues between starts. He said his fastball has no rise. Dude has no answers right now. He's defeated. I hope it changes with an offseason, but he's absolutely done right now.

If there's a replay of radio, go back and listen to Monday's game. Radio guys talked to strider (not on air), but the message they relayed is concerning. Strider says he can't fix his issues in between starts and he's really worried about the rise on his fastball. You may not be worried about strider, but strider is worried about himself

It's 3 starts dude. I'm sure Strider is concerned about it. He was tough on himself early in the season when he was giving up 3-4 ER in 6 innings. But his raw stuff is still far better than Elder's. As someone mentioned, he's the only pitcher in baseball with 2 pitches generating a swing and miss rate over 50%.

Elder is the worst pitcher in baseball, bar none. Stats back that up.

Elder last 11 starts:

45.2 IP
8.61 ERA
41 Ks
23 BBs,
90.2 EV
43.1 Hard hit rate

Yeah, Elder was recently fine against the Mets, but anybody putting any significant hope in him is just being silly.

He can't be in the rotation next year (and for that matter, although it's not the same deal, even if Reynaldo doesn't like it, I don't think he can be counted on as a major factor in 2026). I'd have to say what I'd probably desire for next year looks like this...

Sale
Schwellenbach
Strider
FA SP
Waldrep

I think Elder needs to be traded for whatever you can get after the end of this year.

I have no desire to see him make 20+ starts ever again.
