GDT 8-31: Waldrep on Sunday Night Baseball

Those splits to K Turner and Schwarber were masterfully located. The split to Harper wasn’t located well, but may have had the most sink of any split he’s thrown this season.

The Waldrep interview just revealed why he doesn’t get as much armside run on the split as one would assume. His middle finger is on the seam which gives the balls less screwball spin than it could have. Changes have arm side run due to the stronger fingers being on the index finger side of the ball, and he’s getting more pressure on the middle finger side of the ball.

We may have a legit piece here in Waldrep. I keep waiting for him to fall on his face and it hasn't happened and now he's facing a legit lineup and still shoving.

I'd like to see Waldrep pitch to Baldwin if we're going to keep pitching him in September. I'd love to move Murphy for a legitimate piece for 2026 but afraid this specific front office will keep Murphy just because of Waldrep.

I have no doubt they'll keep Murphy. Baldwin is average to below average defensively and they like to carry 2 good catchers and with Baldwin making the minimum they'll keep Murphy.

I am not sweating a 380 foot homer on a poorly located cutter.. that is just his learning curve. Still like what we are seeing from him.

I would like Waldrep to clean up the number of non competitive pitches.. I get setting up pitches, but make them a bit more competitive.

88 pitches.. no doubt he is back out for the 6th... not sure I am that upset about it either. nothing to loose and like to see how he does as he gets closer to 100..

I've not seen many pitchers go from being nearly unplayable to this good so quickly. There's plenty to improve, but he's been beyond impressive to watch.

I keep waiting for the kid to come back down to earth, for the league to figure him out or something, but he keeps rolling along impressing me. Such an encouraging and shocking development.

I am in same boat as others.. I keep waiting on the real Waldrep to show up. It was like a switch was flipped to go to ace mode. This is very encouraging going into the next few years.. he will get better I assume.
