TRHLIM

deport mama mamdani
Running a smear campaign against a Socialist at a time when Trump has Dems dunking on socialism feels like it shouldn’t be hard. Yet they’ve chosen the strategy of creating the scandal of reminding everyone that Mamdani’s mom is kind of awesome.

Attacking him as an Islamist misses the mark. Republicans always have a way of screwing up.
Yeah, whether or not the nation agrees, New York City is really not the place you’re going to get away with pretending this very normal dude is an Islamist sleeper cell. They see immigrants every day, and I don’t think they’re going to bite here. But frankly I think a lot of the approach we’re seeing from the right has nothing to do with the NYC Mayoral race, which is all but assured to go Mamdani’s way, but an approach to stick whatever they can do him on the national level to make a popular (D) politician into not just a lefty loon but also a scary jihadist.

I’m not one to actually shill for any religion pushing their beliefs on others, but I wonder how Ted feels about someone demonstrating outside an abortion clinic or boycotts Bud Light over a trans person. There’s no law being broken when any self-righteous citizen expresses their freedom of speech in this capacity. Rights for me and not for thee.

He just says they are going to protest across the city to tell people Islam forbids certain things. He even tells the clerk they are free to sell whatever they want and the protests are happening regardless of what he does. He is delusional but harmless.

Exactly. This is just an even more benign version of what Cruz himself would be saying and doing for Christian causes and beliefs. It defies understanding to call this illegal and sharia law.

Think his buddies are harmless?
We have absolutely no reason to suspect otherwise. When someone walks in smiling, shaking your hand and (rather cordially) threatens you with a demonstration in 30 days if you don’t stop selling something he explicitly says he recognizes is your right to sell, my first thought isn’t that him and his buddies are going to harm me. If this man were a devout Christian, I doubt you’d be suggesting this. I don’t really support this behavior from a Muslim or a Christian, but I respect their right to do so. Those like Ted Cruz seem to pick and choose when those rights apply, though.

The right can bitch about the preferences of young women all they want, but this is another thing that’s just the inverse of what the right complains about from the left. Just as you can say the left has alienated young men, the right has alienated young women. Telling someone to just get married and have kids isn’t a compelling argument if the men they have to choose from aren’t compatible or they don’t respect that woman’s desire for a stable career in an increasingly poor economy.
