Snit Watch

I think it absolutely was his decision.
I tend to agree. This was a painful year and while next year shouldn't be as painful, I think Snitker was out of gas. So many injuries and maybe it's just me, but the team just seemed so flat even when healthy. I may be alone in this theory, but Freeman and Swanson (and maybe d'Arnaud) could play bad cop (in a baseball sense) player-to-player and Snitker could just sit back and be the pleasant grandpa. I don't know who plays that role now. Maybe Sale, but there didn't appear to be a similar personality to earllier years on the roster.

I didn't say they were. I don't believe there is necessarily any "bad blood" between them.

That doesn't mean this was a decision Snit just made over the weekend.
I mean, if you watched that press conference and think Snitker just made it all up and is playing along, then you are giving way more credit than anyone on this board ever has.

He also said he’d been thinking about it all season. I’m pretty confident after seeing that to say he wasn’t forced out.

I'd guess they have reached out to candidates, as time is ticking, but you won't hear about it for a day or two.

I'd guess they'll get the manager spot figured out before FA starts. There's probably short list of candidates and I'd guess it won't take to long.

saying the timing of Snit’s retirement is somehow a fault on AA is just wild mental gymnastics. There’s a lot to complain about with the guy, do we gotta make shit up too?

I just don't think it's as black and white that he is either lying or is being completely truthful.

I doubt Snitker is smart enough to lie like that.

It’s not like it’s impossible, but if it wasn’t up to him and he was forced out I’d be very surprised.

Again, I don't think Snit necessarily had to lie for what I said to be true. It doesn't have to be black and white.

What we know is that Snit has been non-committal on the subject, but often talked about returning for next year. And we also know that AA has largely avoided the discussion but has also been non-committal about Snit coming back. Snit also had an expiring contract. So there is plenty of reason to speculate that AA was ready to move on. For reference, Snit said just 1 week ago that the Braves had not reached out to him about his future. So quite clearly, Alex was in no hurry to re-sign him. And like 2 weeks before that, AA said that no decisions had been made about Snit's future.

Maybe Snit saw the writing on the wall when he wasn't offered a contract extension after last season, like he had been offered the previous 2 times leading into the final years of those contracts. Perhaps he had been hopeful they would offer it up during the season, but as the season played out and the team played worse, he rightfully assumed an extension wasn't coming.

I think anyone who has worked under a contract before can tell you that when the end of your contract draws near, and they haven't approached you about staying on, then it's a good assumption that they probably aren't going to offer you to stay on.

So yeah, I think it's plenty fair to speculate.

It was time. That being said, any Braves fan who doesn't appreciate what he did as manager is crazy. I don't think we win that series without him at the helmet. Dude was a steady leader and got the most out of his players.
I am crazy apparently... I am fine with that I guess.

I will say, it seems AA probably made this decision a while back, which is yet another sign of concern for me with him. One would have thought they could have announced this at least a month or 2 ago and let Snit have his swan song and a nice final day send off at the end of the season with a pre game ceremony and all the works with his family in attendance. Certainly this is something they would never to have allowed to happen with Cox.

It's a troubling pattern with AA, with this and the handling of the Kimbrel situation, and also the Culberson treatment. I'm sure there are probably other examples, but they escape me at the moment.
Ok?
