2025-2026 offseason thread

More a symptom of industry wide disregard for pitcher Health I'd think but I don't know anything about this guy, or what he's about, or why they parted ways with each other so I guess I'll just mark this as information received.

Elder is fine as a 6th or 7th starter. He’s not fine if he’s the guy you pencil going into your rotation. He’s also not fine if he’s your #7 starter who is likely to be your # 3 starter at some point during the year.

I will go to bat for Elder. He wasnt that bad this year. He is fine as the teams 5th starter but we all know if he starts as the 5th starter he will likely be the second or third SP before seasons end. He just needs to reign in the disaster starts. He had 3 starts where he combined for 9 IP and 25 Earned Runs.

If you have three starts where you are so bad that you guarantee your team loses, I’m not sure that’s really preferable to the mediocrity spread out a bit.

Bellinger opts out. Alonso wasted no time either. Since I like to read something into everything, I'm assuming no announcement from Kim means both parties are trying to get an extension worked out.

MLBTR on Bellinger opting out: “Bellinger is a better defender and arguably superior all-around hitter than Anthony Santander, who signed for five years with a net present value around $69MM last winter. There’s little reason Bellinger shouldn’t beat that contract fairly handily. It wouldn’t at all be surprising if his camp starts out with an asking price in the $100-150MM range.”

That seems like a lot for a guy whose offensive performance is anchored by low impact contact. At that point I’d rather just back the truck up for Tucker and let that contract be terrible when the team is rebuilding.

I know the Braves never shop at the top end of the FA market, but if there was ever a time to do it, now is that time. There’s room under the tax line, there’s a huge need at DH/OF, and the window is closing. May as well push all the chip in now and deal with the consequences during the rebuild that’s going to be painful no matter what.

We've agreed on this for awhile now. I know it would be out of the Braves norm but if they were ever gonna do it this offseason is the time. Kim, Tucker, Cease would be the dream offseason.

For a competitive team, they really aren't.
Berrios from the Jay's this year was at Elders level. The Ms had a collection of guys go through the 5th spot with a 5 FIP. The issue isn't Elder in the 5th spot. It's he wasn't the 5th starter at the end of the year due to injuries.

Here we go again…

It’s ok AA didn’t build any pitching depth because no amount of depth would have covered the pitching injuries. Did I get that right?

Derrrrrrrpppp

Other teams lost more war than the Braves to injury, and all but the Os did win more games.
