Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

US President in official letter to Norwegian PM: “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize… I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace.”

Daddy needs a sugar high. Guess the diet coke aint doing the job.

This is the future Transpolar Sea Route that will likely carry more shipping than the Panama Canal and Suez Canal combined, starting in the 2040s.

No one is putting a gun to Europe’s heads over Greenland. Trump is changing the cost/benefit equation for them. If he were to decide to send an invasion force to whatever they call the old Thule base that we still operate, they would have the option of marshaling their entire combined amphibious capability and transporting a significant force to stop it.

The only issues with that are that they have no amphibious capability, no sea lift capacity, no significant operational forces, and are much farther away. They are quite literally a joke militarily with less than 10% of their on paper forces actually in operational condition in the best of times. At one point a few years ago the Germans were down to zero ships capable of putting to sea and something like a dozen military planes able to fly. They aren’t allies, they’re dependent hostages, and in a generation they’ll have completely changed to hostile anyway due to their own suicidal empathy.

Poland, Hungary, and the rest of the old Eastern Bloc nations are worth hanging onto. Their memory of communist rule is half a century more recent than Western Europe’s memory of WW2, and they act like it. They carry their weight. Germany, France and the rest of the western continent get too much pleasure from letting us pay for their defense while coming up with creative ways to make us uncompetitive their markets.
It makes zero sense for Greenland to be owned/control by Denmakr.

Trump and his team are the first foward looking administration of my lifetime.

Think Space Force and Greenland.

WAY ahead of the curve considering they are the 'no plans' administration.

You guys completely miss the point of this.

Them awarding the prize to Obama who did nothing versus Trump who has done a lot speaks to the misaligned political balance between the two nations. Its almost adversarial at this point.

Danish citizens have been getting almost a 1 way handout from the American taxpayer for decades.

Fuck them - Just take Greenland at this point since they are being so pompous.

The point is we have a toddler in chief. And no amount of lipstick is gonna make that pig look any better.
No - The point is we have a 'world order' that is useless and isn't merit base or beneficial to the united states in the future. Making a mockery of this award by giving it to Hussein proved that and further strengthened it when Trump wasn't 'worthy' despite infinitely being more beneficial for world peace.

You show your hand to be a blatant activist entity/region while you flood your streets with barbarians. To me, western Europe is at best a neutral party.

Along with the TSR, Greenland sits on an estimated 20kGWH per year of UNTAPPED hydro power because ice sheet melt, along with the freshwater involved that currently just runs into the sea. Their plan is to slowly develop the hydro industry and convert its power to either hydrogen or ammonia for shipping. A new, green, oilfield, with somewhere between 10%-20% of the world’s entire freshwater supply tossed in. They’re a modern Beverly Hillbillies.

AI data centers could be deposited all over the ice sheet to use the natural environment for cooling and the hydro to power them.

Undersea fiber network cable will increasingly run to Greenland.

The “Golden Dome” missile shield that Trump and military want would heavily depend on a string of sensor and missile nodes in northern Greenland. Keep in mind that hypersonic missiles exist now. Warning time is a fraction of what it used to be, so a location that provides warning in the direction that any strike from a major adversary would come from is meaningful.

Nuclear propulsion isn’t allowed in Greenland because <European reasons>, which makes Arctic naval basing much more complicated.

And to top it all off, China has been desperately trying to get in on any and all of the above. Like they did in Sri Lanka, NATO ally Greece, Africa, South America…when that happens, they end up with deeded land and commercial bases that become intelligence or military assets.

What did Trump do in 2024 (nominations closed Jan 31 2025) to deserve the 2025 prize?

This is a fair point - retract the Trump not winning peace as part of the equation. If he doesn't get it this upcoming year then the argument is applicable.

These awards also at times end up being lifetime acheivement which Trump is most qualified for.

Iceland has always been an extremely important strategic chokepoint. The map you shared reinforced this. It also reinforces the importance of good relationships with Canada and the other Nordic countries. They are already very important and will likely grow in importance as the ice sheets melt.

Well the award is meaningless (see Hussein, Barack) so why Trump spends a moment thinking about it is sad

As I mentioned - Its a metaphor (symbolic? I never know)....of how useful the western European alliance truly is.

Another non merit based structure that they want to build.

No to go all geeky on geopolitics. But for those of you concerned about the ramifications of melting polar sheets, it seems to me the most prime real estate is going to be the Svalbard archipelago (which currently belongs to Norway) and Ellesmere Island (Canada). Fortunately, Iceland, Denmark, Norway and Canada are all solid allies. Let's try to keep it that way.

Should send this note to Department of War - After we are done taking Greenland lets move right over.
