The Siege of Minneapolis

Go to any country you can think of. Walk up to a police officer trying to write a ticket or arrest someone or investigate a crime scene. Get in between them and their job and argue. Report back to us what happens.
Back in the day we used to celebrate the fact that the United States Constitution protected us from this outcome.

These are the people who protested George Floyd dying of an overdose while in an approved detention hold. Forgive me for not finding them credible, or respectable.
Is there a reason you won't answer this question? I am not asking you to take a protestor's word for it. I am asking how many adjudicated--by a judge--illegal arrests would it take for you to recognize there is a problem?

Infinity is not happening and you know it. The number is small and to me is collateral damage.

Wrongful arrest happen every day and it’s not due to intentional action.
You said infinity, not me. This was your one shot at me talking to you like an adult and you failed. Goodbye.

One is a problem. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything should be done differently. My dog is the best dog I’ve ever known. He crapped in the floor not too long ago. I cleaned it up and didn’t change anything because the vast majority of the time, that doesn’t happen.

Can you imagine comparing a human life to a dog shitting on the floor. Woof

Back in the day we wouldn’t have had half the country cheer the import of tens of millions of illegal immigrants for political gain. Don’t be mad at the other side for not playing by the old rules after your side changed the rules.

I’m terribly upset now.

When you understand that the population is small it’s stupid to put an arbitrary figure like 100 or 1000. That’s a childish expectation that is irrelevant to the underlying conversation.

They act like they didn’t just support the illegal invasion and there should be no repercussions for it.

No execution of a deportation would be acceptable. There would be a “world is ending” problem with any outcome.

Recently I was in a traffic accident. The county deputy arrived and asked me if I was okay and what happened. I said, I’m fine and just so you know I have a 9mm on my hip. He said well just don’t show me yours and I won’t show you mine. Then the state trooper arrived and we had a similar conversation.
Miraculously I survived, despite being at fault for the accident.

Okay, thank you, I appreciate the answer. And I agree with you that one is a problem, but we live in a world where sometimes errors happen.

The real world answer is that since July, federal judges have found that over 2,300 people have been illegally held and ordered released.

Just for context, this is not counting anybody stopped on the street for some amount of time and then released. This doesn't include anyone who was held and then later released when the government released their error. This is people (a) held indefinitely who (b) managed to get a lawyer, (c) managed to file a habeas petition, (d) the government was allowed to respond, and then (e) a federal judge found the government was illegally holding them. So this is probably a vast undercut of people actually held without legal basis.

I would encourage you to read the court filings in that thread, as there are direct examples where the government fails to give a single reason someone was held, but still opposes their release. There are examples of these petitions being granted daily for people in these Minnesota raids. I would suggest that you pause and consider whether given this mass unlawfulness, you might understand why people are upset and protesting.

Once I detained a shoplifter I caught stealing from the store I was managing. He decided to punch me instead of just giving back the stolen items. It got pretty messy. When the cop arrived he arrested the guy and then told me that he thought I went too far in my detention methods. I said then you should arrest me and I’ll prove you wrong in court.

Somehow, I lived to write this post.

That’s a fair concern and indicates there should be a change in policy or training. I don’t think either of us believe the protesting and interference would be significantly less if that number had been zero.

Did Alex Pretti show his firearm to the DHS agent? infact it seems like the only time it was "shown" was when an agent disarmed him before he was executed.

I also agree that people should be civil with law enforcement and my legal advice to my clients is to obey orders, even if they are clearly illegal, because that can be addressed in court. What I will say, however, is that in my day job I watch body camera footage of police officers all, and even the worst cops would not act like the ICE officers in these videos.

I completely disagree. The protests are in large part a response to the lawless seizures by ICE/CBP.

At minimum. It also indicates a complete disregard for the law by a federal agency.
