See, this is what I mean. The government has every bit of this data available to them and could use people who know what the fuck they’re looking at to identify potential fraud.

Instead, they’re pretty much just asking social media influencers to sort it all out. Surely we will eliminate the fraud this way and not just see if Libs of TikTok can post the most foreign sounding names in blue states.

And to be very clear, I’m 100% on board with the prosecution of any and all Medicaid fraud. Public healthcare cannot function effectively without deterring actual fraud and waste and I’m sure there is indeed tons of it. But this isn’t just some scheme the Somalis cooked up one day in 2020. It’s pervasive and needs to be prosecuted widely, with better safeguards for preventing it. It’s just a shame that DOGE remains a PR department more than a forensic accounting department.

This was really more meant to shade the people throwing piles of money at low quality investigative journalism instead of demanding the FBI do its job. I respect his hustle.

To be fair, this is a bit of a bipartisan issue. Republicans will largely fund and support social services but insist upon measures that will “increase efficiency” via private contractors being funded through grants instead of the government merely providing those services. And we see time and time again that all we really do is create a system where bad actors jump on that.

Sounds like we should designed the country to be a loose confederation of states, with a federal government that’s only responsible for things like foreign affairs, defense, and regulating interstate commerce.
