2025-2026 offseason thread

Huh. They make it sound so easy:

Both Sale himself and president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos recently indicated to reporters (including MLB.com’s Mark Bowman) that they hoped the remainder of the 2024 Cy Young winner’s career would be spent in Atlanta, and now he’ll remain under club control until the end of his age-39 campaign. Sale told reporters (including Chad Bishop of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution) after news of the extension broke this morning that the deal came together quickly after those comments were made early in camp.

“[Anthopoulos] said what he said, I said what I said, and we just kind of looked at each other like, ‘Are we serious?'” Sale said, as relayed by Bishop. “And I called [my agent] and was like ‘Hey, call Alex, figure something out.’ You know, we made our pitch, they made their pitch, and we just kind of met in the middle. I mean, I feel like this was [done in] like, a week.”

Imagine that. A guy who wanted to stay, telling his agent to get a deal done.

I’m ok with not trading them if that was the asking price. That doesn’t excuse not willing to go bolder in free agency the last two offseasons and not going ahead and picking up another useful piece like Littell for extra proven insurance who isn’t going to send you over the the third threshold.

yep. prospects seem to get over valued by fans. But I have a feeling Murphy's stuff is already known by many and he doesn't move the needle much in a lot of trade talks.
It should be known by all. If I can break down his pitches in 15 minutes I'd expect every FO to do the same.

The difference is they may have folks who can project him to add velocity, or see ways to tweak things to get more movement, or other things high end development coaches can see that we (or lesser dev folks from other teams) can't.
