2026 : Around the League

Buster Olney's trade deadline preview piece mentioned Yordan Alvarez as someone the Astros could trade if they decide to sell. Man, I know the fit is tough, and I know we don't necessarily want to lock ourselves into another full-time DH, but that dude can absolutely bomb. I'd be awfully tempted by that.
I'm not sure it makes sense due to what it would do to our roster flexibility, but some version of this would be insane:

Acuna RF
Baldwin C
Olson 1B
Alvarez DH
Albies 2B
Yaz/Dubon LF
Riley 3B
Harris CF
Kim/Dubon SS

Getting Yordan would be wild for now and the future. Would rather target Chapman and Skubal. Expiring contracts* and plus players at somewhat positions of need.

I doubt the Astros are going to trade Alvarez. They have been hit pretty hard by injuries this year. Granted they would likely still be a .500ish team if everyone was healthy.

They seem to have taken the 2025 AA route and tried to reset the luxury tax this year and hope for the best with the roster they have. I would expect them to be active this off-season.

Also, I think AA is cheeky enough to bring him back to be used as like a 4th option in the pen behind Leesaurglesias.

Maybe he could be the back head of a Kimsaurglesias triumvirate to wind down his career after being the front head of the O'Ventbrel one to start.

I think he is probably annoyed with us still for dumping him after 1 IP last year.

And I am still annoyed that he came come in with runners on base against us in a playoff game and be fine despite being 5 years past his prime. He seemed almost incapable of that even in his prime with us in a regular season game much less the playoffs.

What more does the man have to do to convince you? He may not have wow stuff but he also doesn't get injured every 5 minutes like every other SP we have. Its like the turtle and the hare. Slow but steady wins the race. Used to be taking the mound every 5th day and going 6+ innings was a requirement to even be an ace. Theres still room on the bandwagon for you.
