They obviously don't consider Doumit much of an option at catcher, so Bethancourt probably stays until David Carpenter is ready to go and then goes back down, and he serves as insurance until Gattis is ready.

I really fail to see the logic in it. I don't think Doumit catching one game where we already have a bad lineup is the end of the world.

This is obviously not a one-day move. They must think Gattis is unavailable for a few days but not bad enough to lose for two weeks, thus, Bethancourt provides insurance during that time. Gattis could perhaps be better by Wednesday when they need a spot for Carpenter and then Bethancourt will return to Gwinnett, makes perfect sense to me.
 
We currently have 14 position players on the ML roster.

If the starters are Gattis, Freeman, LaStella, Simmons, Johnson, Upton, Upton and Heyward that leaves the bench as:

Laird/Bethancourt - One of these will start while Gattis is out, the other can't hit because they are the last C.
Schafer
Doumit
Pena
Uggla - Who won't be used

So we are working w/ 3 pinch hit possibilities (Schafer, Doumit, Pena) until something is done.

We can't keep Uggla and make moves like this. We are playing with a shorter roster than everyone else.
